I would probably do the tried-and-trued 057 :)

I have been using carbon frame on turbo trainer for a few months already with no issue.

I am always seated and not looking to do any out of saddle effort

the rear drop out is attached to trainer so logic dictates the bike frame itself should stay with the side to side motion of the trainer :)

I am thinking about getting a carbon wheelset, here's what I am thinking ...

- prefer light weight over aero, maybe 35mm profile max
- going to put 25mm tires on it and hoping for wider rims
- i am a bit worried about braking performance on carbon rim though, especially on long descent

Any suggestion? Or owner opinion?

Thanks.

do you need special seat rail clamp for them? I am using an old Thomson seatpost and don't know if the clamp would work for those carbon rail

This one from Backcountry is in my list. They have 133, 145, and 155 widths. $170 marked down to $32 is tough to beat especially considering you have Backcountry's warranty and support.

Here is another popular saddle. Ergon SR3 carbon retailing at $249 marked down to $60. Nashbar is always having 25% off coupons so you might be able to get it cheaper. The large is in stock and measures 155.

was the right kind of brake pads being used? those rotor were completely destroyed ...

Yep, got myself one of those for my 2nd wheelset and it arrived yesterday. in retail package. shimano items are usually excluded from coupon discount.

I got the 11-40 because i already have the 11-42 and I want to see if that will fix my weird cadence issue on climb. (sometimes i found myself right in between cadence, either too fast or too slow), but don't know if i can handle 40t *only* ... haha :p

I had mechanical disc brake for a short while back in the days, and now have XT disc.

Its no doubt that XT feels better in every way, except for when you need to bleed the system. But mechanical disc brake worked at least as good as V-brakes, if not slightly better.

Get a good pair of brake lever and low friction cable :)

A cracked frame or broken seatpost may not cause you a crash, but handle bar would be nasty.

I also got myself a Enve carbon flat bar. Much prefer the pace of mind with that.

29er / Re: CS-057 Tire Choices

Does 29+ takes more effort to go up hills or get up to speed? Say than a 29 with 2.4 tires?

So CD, since you are now riding a 29+ plus bike can you give a brief review on how it feels and what conditions it's best for? I did read that you mentioned after switching to it there's no going back  ::)

Yep, no going back, for me, the 29+ bike obsoleted my other two bikes.  Some of what made the Stache so much better is the tire size, some of it is frame geometry.  The 29+ tire has much more air volume giving it a much softer ride on the trails in my area.  We have lots of roots and rocks here so a tire that can absorb some of that impact is nice to have.  A 29+ tire also has tremendous grip, so you can ride faster, feel more stable, no need to be so selective with your choice of line since the tire is doing so much for you.  Meanwhile, the tire still feels like a 29er, no squirm like a 26"x4" fat bike tire.  Weight of the Chupacabra isn't bad either, 890g is the spec from Trek.

My set of M8000 from Merlin arrived today, $502 - 10% off.

I was thinking about putting together a XT/XTR 1x mix, but the 10% discount for the group did it for me.

Who has chiner  carbon wheelset / rims you tried? How are they holding up?

I am looking for a set for XC and general trail riding for carbon HT.

Just XC, no drop offs ... :)

14
who torque down the brake lever? I supposed a torque wrench was used.

But for chiner product, I would go for over built rather than light weight for more margin of error for QC

that's paper thin for a seat post. Glad nobody got harmed because of the broken post.
