Not sure if it would work but do you think a 210x65 would work on the p9 frame. Thanks

For sure NO - 29" or 27.5+" - upon full compression, the frame might touch, but the wheels will touch your dropped seat.
Questionable - 27.5" - the frame might touch

alternatively if you found a cheap shock, you can shim it to 210x55.

Not sure what tune you are using for the monarch but it's one of the reasons why I didn't go for Rockshox as the DVO allowed me to tune the whole system via bladder pressure. There's also a negative air chamber that I can put spacers into which will make the beginning stroke more supple. Then spacers in the positive chamber for bottom out resistance. In terms of progressiveness this frame is pretty close to a 2016 norco range frame. You can YouTube that to find the full break down of the norco range suspension. Overall the frame is progressive enough to use a coil shock.

In terms of the monarch... It's not really the right shock for this bike as monarch don't come in metric..the equivalent would be the deluxe..which is built much better imo. Longer shock with more stroke spacing (210x55 vs 200x57). You also want at least a M/M tune.

In my opinion - just dish out the money for a good shock off the start. i've spent wayyyyy too much "upgrading" along the way.

Also if you are getting the frame from ican, double check if they offer RS's super deluxe RC3 - it should be about 240€.

What kind of shock would you recomend for the P9?
I've seen a very cheap RS Deluxe RT ( open&trail compression modes) and also, a not so cheap Fox dps (with 3 pos compression) and I would like to know, how important would be to have a "platform" for pedalling...
I appreciate any inputs

really depends what you are using the bike for....any climbing long climbs (10+ mins involved), a "firm" pedaling platform is useful.

really right now for 210x55 Shock required for this bike here's your options:

RockShox:
Deluxe (RT - the trail mode will firm it up a bit which will help with pedaling, RC3 or RCT3 is what you want)
Super Deluxe (same as above with piggyback which is much better for long descent)
Super Deluxe Coil (same as above, but Coil)

Fox:
Dpx2 (comes with 3 settings, expensive, hard to find)

DVO:
Topaz (what I am using. Love it. 3 settings - if you get lucky it's best bang for buck imo)

Cane Creek - Expensive:
DB Coil IL (comes with climb switch)
DB Air IL (same as above in the air version)
DB Coil CS (piggy back version of the above, climb switch)
DB Air CS (same as above in the air verson, climb switch)

PROS:
P9 is a very up to date enduro 29er frame. It compares to many late 2017/2018 29ers from large companies (Norco, Specialized, Giant, Transition etc) Long Reach, Slack, Long wheel base, Good Travel. (If you want XC like, go P8)
Stiffer than Aluminum (Giant Reign) in comparison.
Fast and Stable, Easy to maneuver (compared to my Medium Giant Reign)
Threaded BB
Decent Progression on shock i believe like 28-30%, so Coil is compatible.
32 pounds weight.

CONS:
Not extensively tested so don't know about durability, but you pay for what you get.
Bolts and Nuts are not greased at all. Built in nuts (Shock, Brake Mount) seems like they use a soft aluminum so it may strip easily if threaded wrong or forced.
Bearings generic, don't know how well they will hold up.
Too many internal cabling holes (water will get into the frame).
Lacks Protection (BB, Downtube, Chainstay/Seat stay). Had to install my own.
32 pounds weight.

This is what I can come up with so far. Ask more questions and I can help out.

FYI i built this up over 6 months ago - you can see it here: http://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,1349.0.html

I did a 29er build, so let me know if you have any questions.

Just going through your post - i routed the dropper cable over the BB shell (all internal). As for the additional holes, I covered it with clear tape.

Where did you source the frame for this build?  I'm moving to North Georgia in the next few months and I'm thinking of building an enduro/AM bike for up there.  This is the first bike of this kind from Chinese builders I have seen that truly interests me.

Got this from www.icanbikes.com. I reached out to the email provided on the website and Melody was easy to deal with via email and responsive.

yes i totally agree...on the 29er topic, i do have to say this P9 is very similar to many Long travel 29ers out there currently in North America...

150mm rear, (150 or 160 front), 66 Head angle, sizing etc.

it's definitely not as aggressive as the race bike 29ers (trek slash etc) but this thing is hella of a good/fun aggressive trail or Enduro/AM bike.

29er / Enduro P9 - Full Suspension - Modern Geo - Ican 29er build
« on: November 06, 2017, 02:43:24 PM »
Been seeing a lot of posts around the 29er forum regarding a modern geometry. My take - none of these china carbon companies has modern geo of full suspension enduro bikes raced in EWS. However this build of mine is the closest thing:

This bike was build 2 months ago. It's currently 66.5 degrees (could be 66). It has boost. It has metric sizing shock. It's running 29s. It's been whistler bike park proven (black technicals, blue jump trails).

I came from a 2016 Reign 27.5 Medium which was smaller and slacker.  I am very happy with with the 66.5 HA with my current setup from riding a Norco c9.1 Large, my issues was that the wheelbase was so long from the slackness+29, i couldn't handle it properly. Turns in and out of berms was on the Norco required a lot of body english, overall just felt it required much more finesse than required. With this p9 as a slightly steeper HA - 66.5ish, it felt right - agile like the Reign, but much longer and much faster.

Specs:

DVO Diamond Boost - 150mm (currently at 66.5 degrees HA - 160mm would make it 66 degrees)
DVO Topaz - 210x55 (22mm bushing top and bottom, 150mm travel)
GX Eagle Drivetrain
Magura Trail Sport Brakes (203/180)
Spank Oozt 345 Trail CX Ray - DHR II 2.4 WT DC (10mm of clearance space)
Giant 150mm Dropper (2017 - internal routing)
SDG Fly Mtn Saddle
Answer SL 780mm Bar
Husselfelt 40mm Stem
Lizardskin frame and Chainstay Protector
OneUp Composite Pedals
Threaded BB 73 (330mm Ground clearance)

68 is steep as hell. in 2016 many large companies doing AM and Enduro is at the 66/65 degree, at least in North America. Currently all china companies are way behind the curve with their bikes. The only exception is the P9 but even then you only get the 66 degree if you do long travel 160mm fork on a 29 or 27.5+ tire.

If you look at any EWS bikes from 2016 onwards, all bikes are in the 64-66.5 range.

What is your BB height with the 29er build?

330mm to centre of the BB

here's photos of the tire clearance. there's about 10mm on 29 DHRII 2.4 Wide Trails, enough space for me to put a rear mud guard if i wanted!

as for fully compressed, i don't have photos for that. My seat is moved 80% all the way up front and when shock (metric 210x55) is fully compressed, it doesn't hit the seat or post or frame. I think there's at least 20mm before it touches my seat when dropped all the way down + full compression of the shock

Still don't have it dialed in yet. I know I can get it to feel like a coil which it does now, but I'm bottoming out too often. I do think feel like I am but the sag marker tells me otherwise.

I am totally interested in your 27.5plus setup too, but I have my reserves about why go plus sizing when 29 gets you more volume (not as much as plus but more than 27.5) and faster rolling.
I am basing it off the trails of West coast canada though.

Gonna crash your post with my P9 - cept i built it 29er style - Large, 5'11.
1) I'm surprised you found a 210x60mm shock. I had the same issue with the Super Deluxe delays so i just said screw it.
2) I tuned my whole setup at whistler bike park and this thing is too unreal. I love it.

My Specs:

DVO Diamond Boost - 150mm (currently at 66.5 degrees HA - 160mm would make it 66 degrees)
DVO Topaz - 210x55 (22mm bushing top and bottom, 150mm travel)

New here...I will be taking delivery of an Ican P9 next week. Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh. Will post back with pics etc....

I am looking into ordering this frame in the next couple weeks. Did you order rear shock with it?

I ordered a rs super deluxe through them.  Not in stock until end of the month. They also supplied me with an x fusion sweep roughcut for cheaps! Just need to prove to customs the low value!!?

I ordered mine too with a super delux. Let's start another forum thread specifically for the p9. We can give reviews and update each other on build...
