29er / Re: Carbon or aluminum seatpost

It seems to me that the minimum insertion is walking a thing line.  With all the leverage from the seatpost, I would imagine it could fracture the frame.  To me, a safe distance would be at least 1'"past the bottom of the top tube.

That seatpost you mentioned is friggin expensive!  What's so good about it?

29er / Carbon or aluminum seatpost

One of my carbon seatposts fractured when I ran over a bump on the road.  Anyone else have problems with your carbon seatposts?  I was thinking about going aluminum.  Also what about seatpost length?  My 29er MTB has a 350mm post on it now but its almost maxed out (at the .5cm mark) and I'm afraid it's going to damage my frame on a big hit.

I was holding out on a frame choice for a while because I couldn't find anything with a steep head tube and a short chain stay.  I started off with a FR-211(IP-033) but decided the 450mm chain stay was too long and moved to an IP-256SL.  There is the Orion 29er but the standover height seemed a bit high.

Cool, keep us posted.  I had a similar experience...I started my build in Sept and just finished it after a few months of sitting.  What kind of racing are you doing?  I race XC and most of the fork lengths are 80-100mm.

Digi,
So, I actually had my wheels built with Sapim Lasers
I found the reference about not with disc brakes:  http://www.sapim.be/sites/default/files/checklist.pdf
I am checking with my wheel builder as my spokes and hubs came from BHS.
I haven't had any issues, I weigh 165lbs.
Edit: got a response from my wheel builder:
I've built several sets (your included) with Lasers on disc brake hubs with no problem for lighter weight riders. In these cases 32 spokes with 3 crossings allow the use of the Laser spoke to make a sufficiently stiff wheel. For heavier riders on other than XC applications or low spoke count wheels the Laser is not a suitable choice.

I don't anticipate you having any trouble with the wheels but if you do start breaking spokes just let me know and I can relace them with heavier spokes.

So my friend said his distributor will be out of the the "DT Swiss Competition Race" spokes for a while, so I went with the Sapim Lasers.  I haven't heard of anyone having problems with the Lasers.  I'll post back if have any issues with the wheels.  I'm 165lbs BTW.  Here is my final wheel build:

BHS MTB180/MTB270 hubs (32 hole)
Sapim Laser spokes
DT Swiss brass locking nipples
Stans Crest rims (tubeless)

I got this one and am very happy with it...Folds up compact, holds your bikes tight, is sturdy (with a threaded trailer hitch screw), is relatively light, has basic locking mechanisms on the hitch insert & bike mounts, and is affordable.  It also comes in a 4 bike version.

Yeah thanks.  I would have never thought carbon could be damaged in that environment.

I ended up having my friend build the wheels at his shop but went with the BHS hubs:

BHS F/R hubs (32 hole)
DT Swiss Competition Race spokes
DT Swiss brass locking nipples
Stans Crest rims (tubeless)

I'll post the weight once they are built.

Anyone have issues with Sapim Laser or DT Swiss Revolution spokes?  Anthony at BHS mentioned that Sapim doesn't recommend their Laser spokes with disk brakes...

Anyone else know differences between these two hubs?  A friend of mine created a bike shop and I'm wanting to support him but he is quoting me on all DT Swiss stuff.  I'm thinking of asking him to do the BHS MTB270/MTB180 hubs instead.

My IPlay order containing an IP-256SL frame, headset, 142 Axel, and extra derailleur hanger just came in...super fast.  I don't even have my wheels ready because I thought it would be much longer.  Peter stated that he would send it out on Feb 27th, after the Chinese holiday, and I already have it in my hands.  Here is the tracking info...

Does anyone know the POE of the BHS hub vs. DT Swiss 350?

I ordered my frame a couple days ago.  Peter just got back to me this evening and stated that it was in stock and that he would send it out after the Chinese Spring Festival, which is listed by him to be Feb 13th-27th.  What have times recently been???

I ordered some stuff from Flyxii last year and it got to me in an amazing 3-4 days.

Every time I order something, the process just seems so shady!

Vendor Discussion & Reviews / Current XMIPlay shipping time to the USA?

Does anyone know the current shipping time from XMIPlay to the USA right now?  After my purchase from Peter, he is nonexistent.

For this build I gathered some tools.  The first was a small torque wrench.  I will write review on this unit in the Components subforum at a later date.  But in a nut shell, it's good enough, but not great.  I would buy something else next time.

I'm needing a torque wrench ASAP.  On the short, what did you not like about the Venzo?
