I love bb30 and pf30. Little trick I learned from using an eccentric BB for singlespeed... apply a thick coat of Oatey® Great White® Pipe Joint Compound With PTFE around the BB shell where it interfaces with the BB (just don't get it in on the bearing seals or wipe away the excess if you do).

Also, RE: MB01... I'd stay away from anything with polymer inserts. They'll eventually dry out and crack. Get your compliance from your wheels, not a seatstay gimmick.

Just a quick Q: do you have a MB01?

No. Polymer inserts have been around for a very long time though. They've always been prone to the same issues, and it's unfortunate Specialized decided to revive them.

You mean using Oatey's compound instead of Loctite 609 or similar ?

Correct. Oateys is great stuff. Just make sure you don't buy the PVC glue

Thank you for the precise build list.
There are good findings in there. I will reuse it for sure !

What is the little black ring around the shifter cable before it enters the frame ?
I saw it as well on the Jagwire site, but no information there.

I think what you're referring to is actually a part of the frame. If you check pictures of other cs057s it should be the same. I did put a jagwire cable end, but that's hidden. I didn't end up running full-length housing but may in the future.

29er / Bhaalgorn's "Budget" CS-057 Build
« on: January 11, 2018, 11:19:22 AM »
I recently built up a CS-057 using mostly spare (** indicates spare) or budget/used parts from eBay, Craigslist, Aliexpress, etc. Though I did kind of splurge on building a custom carbon wheelset. :)

Total cost is currently $2,334.48 (includes shipping and tax, price will go down when I sell some things I bought bundled together).

Current weight is just under 22lbs with pedals and bottle cage.

Does anyone know where to buy bulk shifting cables and housing for cheap? Can't seem to find any on Aliexpress. Doesn't necessarily need to be from China.
Didn't you search on AliExpress ? https://www.aliexpress.com/af/bike-shifting-cable.html?blanktest=0&origin=n&jump=afs ( Search on: bike shifting cable)

Of course. I don't see any bulk shifting cables. Do you?

You can contact info@alligatorcables.com, they may sell direct too if there is no reseller in your area.

I should probably clarify that when I say bulk, I really only mean for a handful of bikes at a time. I'd just like to have a some on hand in my home workshop, probably less than <20 meters of housing.

Exactly like me  ;)

Nice! So no distributor remotely near me.

Were you able to work something out with them directly?

Cyclocross Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Wide road / Cyclocross rims
« on: September 11, 2017, 09:33:44 PM »
This thread hasn't seen love in a long time!

I'm looking for some new gravel rims. I really like the Stan's Grail rim. Is there anything similar (~20mm internal width, 700c, 32 hole, clincher) out there?

29er / CS-057 Low Profile Headset?
« on: September 09, 2017, 07:48:52 PM »
My fork steerer tube is about 1/4" too short for my CS-057. Does anyone know of a lower profile headset than the NECO that comes with the frame?

29er / 057 BB30 Question
« on: July 31, 2017, 10:32:21 AM »
Just ordered a CS-057 with the BB30 option (wanted the versatility of BB30). What's everyone doing for BB on these? I was planning to go with theWheelsMFG bb30 kit and a SRAM XO (technically S2200) crank with an absoluteBLACK flat/BB30 chainring.

I really like the idea of a threaded BB though and am considering a Shimano crank with a BB30>24mm conversion or a SRAM GXP crank with a BB30>GXP bb.

What are your thoughts and experiences?

Yeah, I pulled the trigger on the CS-057 from Peter. Looking forward to building it up.

I think he means the "057" model in general. Sadly I don't know the prices, but you can always ask them ...

Precisely. I wasn't sure the differences between the ip-057 and the cs-057, but it seems concensus that Peter's frame is stiffer. Just curious who else is producing frameset with this same mold.
