29er / Vendors with the Cheapest Frame like the CS-057?
« on: July 26, 2017, 07:52:44 AM »
As the topic asks: Which vendors sell the cheapest CS-057 frame? I might still go with Peter, but he's considerably more expensive than every other Chinese vendor.

- Is that a chiner seat? How do you like it? I'm curious about longterm durability with those, but interested due to the price, weight, and surprisingly positive reviews in regards to comfort that I've read.

I've definitely wondered the same about that saddle, and I'm curious to hear OP's thoughts.

I ordered my first piece of Chinese carbon; some MIRACLE 44cm compact drop bars. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Miralce-New-Ful-Carbon-Fiber-Road-Bicycle-Cylcing-Bike-Compact-Handlebar-Drop-Bars-Carbon-31-8/32525694729.html

I really liked the layout of the bar, so I'm excited to see how it handles. Hopefully I keep all my teeth through the cyclocross season.

Component Deals & Selection / Re: Chinese hubs?

http://www.bitexhubs.com/htm/index.php Large manufacturer that gets rebranded a lot. MTB180 and MTB270 are very popular (https://www.bikehubstore.com/MTB180-MTB270-Hubset-w-Logo-p/mtb180270btx-red.htm)

Same with http://www.formulahubs.com/

I've tried a few more small components.

Red annodized QR skewers: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-Pro-Road-MTB-Bike-Bicycle-Hubs-Quick-Release-Cycling-Bike-Quick-Release-Axle-Skewers-Seat/32458095975.html - These are pretty meh. The axle is semi rough, like it was made from cheap aluminum, and the screw is made of plastic. I would not recommend these.

Wire end caps: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/30Pcs-Bike-Bicycle-Brake-Shifter-Derailleur-Inner-Cable-Wire-End-Cap-Crimps-free-shipping/32598865290.html - Can't really go wrong here. They work just fine.

Chainstag protector: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Cycling-Frame-Chain-stay-Protector-Guard-chain-protector-Bike-Sport-Tool-Parts-Road-Bicycle-Chain-Protector/32228731365.html - Not bad. It's a padded fabric material, so I'm curious to see how it does when it gets wet. They didn't have a Niner logo, unfortunately.

Silenyond bib and jersy: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Siilenyond-Lancelote-Pro-Maillot-Rock-Bicycle-Wear-Summer-MTB-Cycling-Clothing-Ropa-Ciclismo-Bike-Clothing-Racing/32679893065.html - The same guys that make X-Tiger. Quality is excellent. Again, I definitely recommend these. Fitting can be weird though, but after your first order you'll get it figured out.

Pulley/jockey wheel: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2pcs-MEIJUN-MTB-Road-Bike-Ceramic-Pulley-7005-Aluminum-Alloy-Rear-Derailleur-11T-13T-Guide-Cycling/32658360558.html - NOT ceramic, but at this price, whatever. Pay attention to your current wheel tooth count. I tried to run the 11T on my 12T SRAM Force CX1 rear derailleur and it did not work out so well. The set I put on my MTB is just fine though. I did break my first chain after installing these, but I'm not sure what the cause was. I'll update this if it happens again.

Crank boots: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/MEIJUN-8-Color-Mountain-Bikes-Road-Bicycle-Cycling-Crankset-protector-Crank-Protective-Sleeve-Cover-Parts/32302294375.html - These fit my SRAM Force CX1 cranks pretty nicely. There's a bit of overlap of the pedal spindle, but it's not problematic since it stretches out of the way.

Warm riding gloves: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/ROCKBROS-Winter-Gloves-Fleece-Thermal-Warm-Bike-Sport-Gloves-Motorcycle-Cycling-Bicycle-Equipment-Gloves-Full-Finger/32579893837.html - Minimal padding, but they've done a great job keeping my hands warm on a couple of 40*F rides. They also work with touchscreens.

Windbreaker: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/ROCKBROS-Cycling-Clothing-Men-Women-Wear-Riding-Breathable-Reflective-Jersey-Bicycle-Bike-Wind-Rain-Coat-Jacket/891011759.html - This is badass. It's perfect for temps into the high 30s. I just wear this and a jersey, and I still sweat. It's very, very thin, so I was kind of bummed at first. But it's comfortable, reflective, has pockets, a fleece collar, elastic cuffs/hem, etc. Definitely recommend this.

Any feedback on boost-compatible hard tails? Peter has a few it seems:

Whoa! Cool!

Dang it. I had almost settled on the 821 and now I see this. Any idea how this would do setup as an xc 29er with say 120mm of travel front and 100mm travel in the rear?

Have anyone built up one of these frames? I'm thinking about building one myself with a set of carbon wheels. I'm curious how stiff and/or loose the frame is, especially side to side. I'm a bigger rider (6'3", 220lbs), so I'm a little anxious about it. Also curious for those that did build this up, what suspension did you go with (what size shock)?

I consider now some jersey/shorts. Less then 25$ the pack!
I've bought several pairs of the jersey and bib combos, and I love them.

This guy has been really great to work with: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2016-X-Tiger-Modesti-Summer-Cycling-Clothing-maillot-bicycle-clothes-ropa-Cycling-Jerseys-Mountain-Bicycle-Wear/32668209928.html

The sizing is wonky though. Took me some trial and error, but discovered a 2XL jersey and a 3XL bib fits me perfectly. I'm 6'3", 220lbs, 38"x32" pants and L T-shirts usually.

I also bought his multi-lens Oakley sunglasses, which I really like.

Aliexpress has a wide range of components that seem very appealing. Has anyone tried some of these components? The only parts I've ordered are small things (jockey wheels, bolts, etc.), but there appear to be a whole host of knockoffs (like the iXF crankset which is Shimano XT).

What are some of the common knockoff equivalents?
What have you tried and liked or didn't like?
