This is why I asked about budget... when you add up everything, the whole bike from Ribble is a decent value...

Looking nice except for one thing. Putting a clamp on a carbon frame is a huge NO NO. Especially the top tube. The top tube is the weakest tube on any bike and is easily crushed. The seat post is the best option.

Clamp is loose.  But I get the point.  I will hold it by the seat post.  Thank you!

Wahoo sensors, Shimano Ultegra Wheelset, 12-25 cassette, and seat came in.

I am not going for any specific weight on the build... but sharing just for kicks.  This seat is 167.5 grams vs 266.7 grams for the one on the first build.

Wheels with tires... these came out to be 18 grams more than first build... go figure... I thought that Michelin tire was going to be lighter (and yes, using same inner tube as in the first build).  1375 grams vs 1357 grams.  This is rear wheel, tire, inner tube, and quick release skewer.

After that, I installed the cassette and got it on the bike.

Then this also came in... groupset is here.  Swapped the cassette for the 11-32.  That way I can measure and install the chain.

Started installing a few things.  Can't work much on the front as the thin aero spacers, stem, and bars are not here to properly measure and cut the fork tube...  but I can install the crank and rear brake caliper!

That is all for now...

I had an entry level cannondale aluminum bike b4 I got this Chinese carbon frame. The cannondale weighs in at 9.6kg. This Chinese carbon bike 7.4kg. I ride with a usual group of 6 riders for a while now. we will go 4 night rides of between 40-70km on the same route. The loop consists of about 8 climbs. I was the only 1 on aluminium while the rest were on branded carbon bikes. There's a pinarello, a cipollini, a Ridley, cannondale evo and a parlee. On my aluminium bike I could keep up with the group 4 the first 20km or so. Then I will usually get dropped by the group. I would get dropped by sometimes about 1km or so. Now 1 km might not sound like much cos if u go at 30km/h it's like only 2 mins behind the group. But visually on the road it's like the group is so far in front of me I can't even see their blinking rear lights. It's as good as a solo ride by then.
With this china bike n riding with the same group on the same loop I hv seen massive improvements. From being dropped by a km or so, I'm not only able to keep up with them but also sprint with them to the finish. The bike accelerates easily, climbs like a goat. Took half the effort to maintain speed on the flats. (33-38km/h). Closing the gap on surges required so much less effort than my precious bike. Performance wise as good as any branded n expensive bike.
Absolutely worth it.

Completed building my Chinese carbon road bike. With ultegra groupset dura ace c35 and conti tires .

Congratulations!!  Looks great. How does it ride??

21
Yes I have but they do not offer a carbon disc road bike and they use cheap brakes and other parts on their builds. Plus they are pretty ugly. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Email the contact I gave you.  To see if they carry a similar frame.

22
Hey, yeah the price isn't bad at all but I'm in the US and that adds another $140 shipped plus I really don't like all the bright colors. I was going to do a 105 build. There isn't really any difference between 105 and Ultegra other than about 300 grams and a couple hundred dollars. Rather put the money into better wheels.

Have you looked at what Nashbar has?

What components are you planing on using?

Complete bike price with Ultegra does not looks that bad... are you shooting for a specific budget??

Thanks! Lots of interesting stuff here. As I said in my PM, I think I'm leaning to building a bike like the Ribble Gran Fondo disc. I like the ability to run slightly larger tires and the geometry.

Cool!

Me, being new to all this, did not know any better.  Just went by the looks of the frame, lol.  I don't think that I can go wider than 25mm with this frame.  Maybe, if I ever build a 3rd bike, I will use something different that can accommodate wider tires.  For now I am having fun using this bike, getting back into a different shape (cause round and fat is still a shape).

Do share your build if you buy it apart instead of going turn-key.  Cheers!

Nice ride! I have been thinking of doing the same thing.

Welcome to the forum!!  This is my second frame and there is another forum member, RoadClimber, that also got one.   Even with the mistake they made on the BB, I am very pleased with the frame.

When looking for an integrated handlebar, I also came across these guys...

http://www.dhgate.com/product/20-color-can-choise-f10-frame-cheap-carbon/402013678.html#s1-20-7b;searl|2661163036

I ordered only the bar from them...

Will see how that looks.  I will share photos and feedback on quality of the handlebar when I get it.

Waiting on the rest of the parts to arrive...

And for the second build... these are the parts that are going into it (shipping included in most prices listed):

Frame:  China (Taiwan) - US$540.00
Handlebar: No logo 3K Carbon Fiber Matte Drop Bar in 420mm - US$36.46 - eBay
Selle Italia SLR Flow Saddle - US$96.59 - Ribble Cycles
Shimano Ultegra 6800 Group Set 11 Spd - Cassette 11-32 - Chainset 172.5 34/50 and Rear Gear Derailleur GS (Medium) - Went with a mechanical setup - ProBikeKit - US$533.27
Pedals - Shimano Ultegra PD-6800 Spd-Sl Pedals Carbon, Pair - US$99.95 (could not find them at the same price as before... all prices seem to have gone up a few $$) - Competitive Cyclist
Stem: Most Tiger Ultra Aero 3K Stem in 100mm - US$ 157.37 - eBay
Pinarello Dogma Think 2 Chainstay Protector - US$12.00 - Competitive Cyclist
Pinarello Most Headset expander - US54.66 - eBay
Pinarello Most Headset Auero 1K Carbon spacers (3-10mm and 2-5mm) - US$48.95 - Competitive Cyclist
Lizard Skins DSP 2.5 Bar Tape Dual Color Black Red - US$32.05 - eBay
Wanted to try different tires on this one... got a set of 23 and a set of 25:  Michelin Pro4 ENDURANCE V2 Road Bike Tyre in 23 (with a red accent) and 25 - US$123.96 - ChainReactionCycles
Continental Race 28 700c x 20-25 Bike Tubes (3 Pack) - 80mm Presta Valve (got two packs for a total of 6 tubes) - US$43.34 - Amazon
Most Lighthouse Light (yes, I know, I could find a better light for this price) - US$69.99 - Glory Cycles
Most Red Edge Rear Light - US$39.99 - Glory Cycles
Pinarello Most SILOS Waterproof Bottle Cage Bag - US$34.99 - Glory Cycles

Wheels - I wanted another set of the Ultegra wheels that I currently have.  But that deal is gone!  Could not find them for less that 4-500.00.  Will keep looking for a deal on the Ultegras, but last night (July3rd) when discussing what we were going to do with the frame, vendor offered me a good price on a wheel set...These are the ones that are aluminum and carbon.  Brake surface is aluminum.  After a bit of going back and forth, price came down to where I just agreed to buy them:

Wheels - China (Taiwan) Same vendor as the frame.  Price reflects a discount for the mistake made on the BB on the frame. Aluminum carbon road bike wheels 50mm rim matte carbon 3K with Novatec A271SB/F372SB black hubs- No decals - US$325.00

And this is what I will install to convert the incorrectly Bottom Bracket to what I need (vendor is sending an insert with an install tool to press it in, but after giving it some thought, decided to use this instead).  Takes a BB30 and allows for Shimano 24mm crank install.

Universal Bottom Bracket Press - PRESS-7
Wheels Mfg Double End BB Wrench, 48.5mm/44mm - WRENCH-BB48-44
BB30 Outboard Angular Contact BB for 24mm Cranks (Shimano) - Black - BB30-OUT-3
FREE - Complete Multi-Tool, Red   TOOL-G-RED-Z

Vendor is sending this adapter (in 42mmx68mm) to be pressed in...

the tool to press it in with, and Loctite 609...

Again, I will receive those, but based on feedback, using that adapter from Wheels Mfg is a better alternative.   I will save the insert sent by the vendor, and the Shimano bottom bracket that comes with the groupset, in case I ever want to go that route...

And before anyone jumps in as to how I should have pushed back on the vendor and return the frame, etc.... yeah, I get it.  But mistakes happen, not the end of the world... there is a practical solution to the problem and I am good with it.  Plus I got a fair discount on the wheels due to this.

Edit:
Found a good deal on a set of Ultegra wheels. Added a 12-25 cassette as recommended by a fellow Floridian forum member:  US$383.34 - Competitive Cyclist
Shimano Ultegra WH-6800 Road Wheelset - Clincher
Shima Ultegra 6800 Cassette 12-25

One more thing and tool that I forgot.  On the bottom bracket, there was also just one spot that had some resin on it... got one of those thread cleaner blades with the 24 tooth spacing

and it cleaned right away.  Greased them, and everything bolted smoothly by hand before applying spec torque.

Which reminds me that when you do your build, everything is installed by hand first before you put any wrench to it.  You do not want to risk messing up a thread or a part by forcing it with a wrench from the get go.  Everything should go in smoothly.

Okay... now that I have a bit more time...  that list of tools I bought based on feedback from this and other forums.  But at the end, I did not use all those tools during the build.  For example... the Park Tool BBT-9 Bottom Bracket Tool to remove and install Shimano Hollowtech II bottom brackets has a Shimano Hollowtech-II crank-arm/cap tool, TL-FC16 built into it... so that is a 5.00 saving not having to buy that separate... I did not know that, so I now have several tools duplicated.  But you need the Park Tool BBT-19 Bottom Bracket Tool for removing 16-notch external bearing bottom bracket cups to be able to use a large torque wrench to get the bottom bracket tighten to spec... so I would just get that socket, and the Shimano Hollowtech-II crank-arm/cap tool, TL-FC16 and skip the Park Tool BBT-9 Bottom Bracket Tool.

Same goes with the Park Tool FR-5.2 Cassette Lockring Tool... I got that one and then realized that the one with the guide pin is better for newbies... so I ordered the Park Tool FR-5G Cassette Lockring Tool with Guide Pin... a few additional $ wasted.

Flexible Bike Cycling Bicycle BMX Chain Whip Wheel Sprocket Remove Tool - you don't need for the install... only when you want to remove it... so that is something that can be purchased later...   Hozan 4th Hand Brake Tool - I used the technique that I saw on a video of inserting a large allen wrench to keep the separation required and that worked like a charm... this 4th hand brake tool sits in its original packaging... don't wast the money on it... also, if you have someone to help, they can be that 4th hand :).  I did not use the KMC Opener Missing Link either... used the Shimano chain pins to install the chain... this is more of your preference if you want to go with a chain link.

So at the end of the day, the only tools you will need for the build are (I will leave the complete list at the bottom just for reference...)

A bike stand.  It just makes life so much easier when installing and adjusting the brakes, front and back derailleur, etc.  For 30.00 for the one I found at Aldi's, can't beat that price and it has done its job well.
Best Value Torque Wrench Set - IRONARM Torque Wrench Bike. Good Bicycle Repair Tools and Allen Key Set - US$43.95 - the same kit is found branded by many vendors with different prices... just find it with the cheapest price and get it.  You really do not want to over-tighten anything... use the proper torque settings when putting things together
Park Tool Mini Chain Brute Chain Tool - CT-5 - US$15.26 - this little guy is amazing!!  Don't bother with anything fancier... afterwards I got one of those multi-tools kit that go in the toolbag on the bike, so you might want to consider getting that instead to help with the build and then have in the bike as part of your toolkit... but this little guy is just great!  I did not mind spending the $ for it.
XLC Pro Cable and Housing Cutter - US$17.49 - you will use this a lot.  Specially if you make mistakes with the length of the cables  :-\ don't ask!  >:(  :P
Park Tool BBT-19 Bottom Bracket Tool for removing 16-notch external bearing bottom bracket cups
Shimano Hollowtech-II crank-arm/cap tool, TL-FC16
Park Tool FR-5G Cassette Lockring Tool with Guide Pin - yeah... get the one with the pin...
Stanley 85-753 22 Piece Long Arm SAE & Metric Hex Key Set - if you have a set then fine... but for 9.00... can't beat the price for both.  You will only use the metric set.
Finish Line Ceramic Grease 2-Ounce Tube US$9.96
Park Tool SAC-2 Lube Assembly Compound (4-Ounce) - $10.76
Blue Loctite
Phillips and Flat screwdrivers in different sizes...
I have an air compressor at home... and still went and got a floor pump.  So easy and fast to get to 120lbs that my wheels/tires needed.
You will need a hacksaw, tape, measuring tape, mask, etc. to cut the fork tube.
Black electrical tape (or color of choice) for when installing the bar tape...

Not on the list was a larger torque wrench to get the bottom bracket to spec... you can rent/borrow that from your local auto store if you do not have one.

And don't waste money like I did on all my initial list...

A bike stand is great... I got a very inexpensive one from the oddest place... a supermarket.  Aldis had one on special for around 30.00.  Works great!

In a few hours I will post the links from youtube that I used for guidance on some of these tasks...

Best of luck with your build and be sure to share updates and photos along the way.  I will do the same with my second build as soon as the frame arrives (should be in a few weeks).
