This is what I got to build my bike... as you, this was my first build.  I have a thread in this forum with all the details of my build, check it out

http://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,1205.0.html

Tools (all ordered from Amazon).  I was installing Shimano Ultegra on my bike... your tools might vary depending on the brand of the groupset... :

Phillips and Flat screwdrivers in different sizes...

You will need a hacksaw, tape, measuring tape, etc. to cut the fork tube.
Black electrical tape (or color of choice) for when installing the bar tape...

A bike stand is great... I got a very inexpensive one from the oddest place... a supermarket.  Aldis had one on special for around 30.00.  Works great!

I think that is it...

Have fun with your build!!

Funny, the Chiners fever!!!! Give your credit card to your wife before you order a third one  ;D

Well, because of you  ;), I just had my personal fever and bought the Wahoo Bolt. Let me explain (justify?). I did a XC Marathon last Saturday and, as an additional motivation, I told myself that I would buy the Bolt if I finish and arrive in less then 8 hours. I did 7:42 (almost 3000m vert. climb) so I am now waiting for it to arrive! I found a small discount (€10), hard to get any better on such a recent product.
The battery of the iPhone7 is really poor compared to my former iPhone6. I kept the phone in my bag (screen turn off then) and it got down to 20% battery after 8 hours running Strava. I would have been really frustrated if it had died before then end  >:(

Getting back to your bike, I love the design of your next frame. Looks great! But I'm sure the next one will be even better  ;D

It was a stretch just getting the second frame... no way I am getting a third one... wife does now even know I ordered the second one! ha!  It will take me a lot longer to build the second one as I need to wait until next year to buy anything else for it... I just hope I am home when this second one arrives so that I can hide it right away!! Buuuaaahahahahahhahahaha :)

Second frame from them so they gave it to me for the same price.  It is usually 100.00 more for the paint.

Could not resist... I will use this bike for now... but ordered another frame.  Once that one gets here, I will give this bike to my son (same height as me for now, he is 14 and still growing...)...

I went ahead and ordered the frame painted.  Asked to be painted just like this one (and again, no decals) - UD, some red, and the dotted pattern...

Really nice... I get a few questions and comment:
- Question: please report on the Wahoo Bolt. I consider buying this or a Garmin Edge 820. It looks good!
- Another question: is that a Garmin Vario light? Those are expensive!! Is it good?

Cheers!

Front light is not Garmin... can't spend that kind of $$ on the light :) - Light is a much less expensive Serfas eLume 600 -Have not had the chance to take it out to test.
Rear light is a Knog Blinder Road R70 - This sucker is bright!

Wahoo Bolt - I too was going to buy the Garmin 820.  Then I started seeing reviews and details on the Wahoo Bolt.  Since I had nothing and the bundle was about the same price.  I decided to go with the Bolt.

Now I am done (with the exception of swapping pedals this weekend)....

Mirrors installed

I feel much better now.  Even if it goes against rule 66 as mentioned before (loved reading those rules, thank you for sharing! ) .  :P

Fully loaded photo... 20.13 lbs - again... I was not shooting for any particular weight target... just sharing total weight of the build.

Wahoo Bolt and sensors
Lights
Tool bag full of essentials
Water cages and bottles
Heavy normal pedals (I have the Ultegra pedals that I will test this weekend)
Wheels with tires, inner tubes, and skewers are 5.5lbs alone!  But I need those for now for my heavy a*s*s*

Maybe when I loose the 50lbs again, I can worry about weight reduction on the bike :D

A few things came in today:

Bottle cages

Wahoo Bolt

Sensors installed

Also took a few photos of my front derailleur cable...

Ordered some Jagwire Black Housing Liner (30 meters roll) and added some Jagwire Inline Index Detent Adjusters as well... Taking into account some of the recommendations made by a few fellow members and to improve the way the front derailleur cable goes in.

With the longer cable liner I can install everything with the liner going over the bottom piece like my friend's F8

Better to do this now (rain scheduled for the weekend helps in the decision, lol )

I have a friend with an F8... This is what he has... interesting...  that is not the normal cable housing.  Just a sleeve that goes into a grommet... darn it... I need to take more photos...

and it seems to cover the bend as well...

Hi FirstCFbike:

I sent you private messages. Hope you can answer those questions.

Thanks,

RoadClimber

I just sent you a PM... reach out to the vendor for this.

Well... I was not happy with how the  front derailleur cable was going into just a hole behind the seat tube, this just stayed in the back of my mind... Went to the local shop and sure enough... it should have a cable guide (grommet) .  Similar to this:

I sent an email to the vendor that sold me the frame to see if they have these and can send them as soon as possible.

I did place a cable cover on the cable to avoid direct contact with the frame... but I want the right grommet for that spot... the one I got from the local shop was a generic one they gave me to test and it does not fit...

And no, local shop did not have the Pinarello factory units to sell separately.  They are supposed to come with the frame.  Mine being a China frame (I was open with them on this...) it is pretty much " good luck mate! ".  But they did try to help.

So email to the frame vendor and the search is on for something that fits in case the vendor is unable to provide them.

Congrats!

I see you finally finished building your bike. Get used to the pedals and do not be afraid of falling onto the floor. It may happen but you have to try them.
Let us know how it goes.

I will try those this weekend... holding on to a car or something...

On other news.  Stopped by the local shop and got a front light...

Do not mock my tape wrapping skills  :D :P

I also ordered some mirrors.  Went with these.  Did not feel good riding without being able to see behind me.

It looks very good! Congrats.

I like the 3K matte finish. A few thoughts:
- The bike should not feel harsh. I suspect that this comes from the tires. Use good quality, expensive, 25 mm tires, inflated low enough and it should be a smooth ride. The tire is your only contact with the road; as high quality the rest of the bike is, this is what ensures grip and damping. I like the Schwalbe Pro One mounted tubeless. Continental tires are known to be too rigid.
- make sure to adjust your saddle height properly. It should be higher then a MTB. Move it up gradually, it might feel odd at first but then you understand that this is how you can push strong. I use the formula inseam x 0.883 for the BB to top of saddle measurement.
- move to clipless pedals as soon as you can.

Thank you!!

On the road feel.  I think it was more of a newbie first ride on a bike like this... remember where I come from in terms of riding  ;D

I went with the Continental Gatorskin for road puncture protection... I would love to have an additional set of wheels with lighter tires/tubes.... maybe later when the wallet heals.

On saddle adjustment.  Well, overall bike fitting.  I used this to select frame size

https://www.competitivecyclist.com/Store/catalog/fitCalculatorBike.jsp

And then used a few videos on setting seat height and seatback, etc.  Got a goniometer to measure the angle of my legs and adjusted the seat height.  And I had a plomb to determine the seatback.

On the clipless... I have the shoes and pedals... just a bit afraid of using them from the start and falling... will try them out this weekend.  Got some liner chamois short to use under my normal shorts... that will help with getting used to the seat and ride...

Baby steps... getting there :)

Logo almost gone... will do a second coat tomorrow...

Very happy with the build.  Pretty sure a shop would have done a better job but a lot of the fun for me is doing the build myself.
