29er / Re: Internal cabling IP-256 , dropper
« on: July 21, 2014, 04:33:25 PM »
Guess I'm glad I did not purchase an IP-256, doesn't make sense that the liner would be removed for the r/d cable and that the rear brake line does not fit through the frame.

The IP-256 appears to have a cap at the exit point of the brake cable, is that removable?  Again, without pictures I am really in the dark as to why your frame does not seem to be correctly designed for cable routing.  I keep looking at the pictures on the XMIplay website and the routing appears to be very much the same as my IP-256 which worked out great, although I didn't try to run cabling for a dropper seat post but that seems to be beside the point of your R/D and brake line routing.
The liner of the IP-256 is just a lose hose/guidance cable and should be removed at the end. They are not attached to the frame (see picture).

The cap at the exit point of the brake cable can be removed.

The R/D is in, it is the bare cable in this picture, the sleeve you can see is waiting for my future dropper's cable 8)

I don't think you can use that part of the cable guide for your dropper. That cable guide leads you to the FD (at the back of your seat tube).
I don't what kind of cable the dropper have, cable or hydro. In case of cable, I think you need to use a full hose from the dropper, through your frame, to the handlebar. But as I said, I don't have any experience with a dropper.

Vendor Discussion & Reviews / Re: My experience with Xmiplay..

I've got a 'wrong' site from Peter to track my frame. The correct site for me was http://app3.hongkongpost.hk/CGI/mt/enquiry.jsp.

Send him a couple of times some emails and always get response. For me the after-sales is okay.

I installed the cable for the r/d , took out the liner when finished an managed to put back in.
I took it out again and will leave it out and keep it untill I want to replace the cable.
What do you think of the construction underneath the bottom bracket now your RD cable is installed? Do you think it will stay for a couple of years? I'm afraid of the wear at the point where the cable is going through the guidance

Next up is the rear brake cable, my brakes are Shimano XTR's
The brake cable does't fit through the liner that came with the IP-256 so i think I will just tape the liner and the brake cable together and try to get it throughmostly pushing and not pulling.
Anyone here with experience and advice here?
It is of course extra tricky because I don't want to lose to much brakefluid....
Maybe replace the liner with a stronger one (if you don't trust the one that already in it)? On my brake cables, which are new and unused, I've got caps on the ends. But I think I've to remove them, otherwise they will not fit the frame hole. I think I'm going to use tape to prevent losing brake fluid. And maybe pushing from the bottom to the top is the best way ?

Component Deals & Selection / Re: BikeHubStore.com Hubs?

I didn't know that hubs are also weight related. I thought it was only for the rims (in combination with the spokes).

No carbon paste, grease if anything.
To be sure: grease like the grease you're using for ball bearing/BB ?
And do you use the grease between the frame and bearing ? Doesn't hurt the frame ?

How'd this turn out. Get it figured out?
I'm waiting on my fork, so, couldn't do it yet.

But the way is this, whereby the shim maybe not needed.

You painting all one solid color or some type of design?
I'm going for a design. And under the down tube maybe an area to protect the frame.

After The Ride / Re: What kind of riding do you do?
« on: July 14, 2014, 03:01:31 PM »
Another XC rider over here. My mountain bike is on the first place. A road bike don't have any place. And my city bike is after a road bike. I really don't like road biking. Fast technical single tracks, climbing, loose sand, an unexpected drop (2-3 foot), pumptrack, together in a group, alone, that's what I like. No downhill. Riding 80km with a elevation gain of 1000 meter gives me a big smile. But a ride of 35km with 400m also.

Bought myself a high sophisticated  ;D kitchen scale today. I'm not a weight weenie, but just interested.

Remarkable: most indicated chinese weights are very accurate

With all indicated weights, I expected a weight of 9943 gr (21.9lbs), but now with some actual weights, it goes to 9786 gr (21.6lbs). :)

Updated buildlist (also in the first topicpost):

Thanks MTB.
Another question.  Would the 056 handle my weight: 210lbs?
That's not a problem. 210lbs isn't that heavy  ;)
The question is: can your wheels handle your weight. Some wheels have weight limits. But, you're using your current wheels, so this isn't a problem.

Component Deals & Selection / Re: Plasti Dip
« on: July 13, 2014, 04:06:17 PM »
The more I think about it, Plasti-Dip seems like it should be very benign.  Anything you can just peel off later, can't be too bad for most any surface.
I agree. But here in the Netherlands, there is a webshop selling Plasti Dip. But they only sell red matte Plasti Dip to business consumers, not you and me. This is because there's a higher concentration of Tolueen. And red matte is just the one I want :)
So, I was wondering what would be the impact on the carbon for this 'high concentrated Tolueen' color. I think it's not a problem.
And I'm not in a hurry to build my bike (still waiting for some parts), so, I've some time to test :)

Hi Golo,

welcome.

When you choose another frame, you have pay attention to the following part:
- Bottom bracket: BSA/PF30/BB30 etc
- Quick release / 12x142 / 10x135
- Front derailleur: how is it currently mounted, can you reuse the same type of FD
- Fork: your fork is shortened. Does if fit in the frame with (maybe) different head tube length
- Geometry: compare it to you current geometry. You cannot doing a test ride ....
- Seatpost: diameter of the seat post tube
- Maybe you will need new cables because some are too short

I did a little Plasti Dip on a carbon part of the frame.
When my XT group arrives, I will start building up my bike and look how the carbon holds underneath the Plasti Dip.

Component Deals & Selection / Headset installation (on an IP-256)
« on: July 13, 2014, 09:15:31 AM »
Installing a headset on an IP-256 is simple. Although, that's what I thought.

But don't I need cups or such a thing ? I think the answer is: No.

I've got this headset from Peter (with a shim).

The way to install is, is like in the way on the picture. And do I need to use carbon paste (between the bearing and the frame) ?
And do I need to use shim(s) between the bottom bearing and frame ?
