Went to polish and wax, but realized I left it in another car in storage.  Ugggg.  Have to pick some up to "finish" the edges of the paint, clean up some clear coat overspray, etc.   After I polish and wax, Ill probably have one of my professional photographer friends take a few pics.  Tight schedule though, cause I want to build it ASAP so I can ride it next weekend.

Have everything except a stem and carbon paste.

Ok, here are some cell phone pics before polish and wax.   I noticed a minor spot that the paint was damaged on the non drive side.  I think from touching something while wet..  otherwise looks amazing.

Me too!!!   Painter called this morning, it's all done, but I can't get down there till Wednesday.    Tomorrow is going to be a long anxious day...

Scratch that, quick cell phone photos to come soon.  I went and picked it up just now, regular camera battery is dead.

What I did for the cassette, after 5 tries, was to go slow until it started to engage, then watched, held and guided the teeth on the big ring to engage with the notches on the freehub.  I found that there wasnt much info about it online.

I'll post more photos later on, have to do domestic stuff now....  But the frame went to the painter today.  He's one of the grandfathers of pinstriping and hotrod painting as far back as the 50s. He worked Ed Roth and Von Dutch.  He's done carbon fiber racecar parts and old school vintage bikes, but never a carbon bike, but he's super excited for the job.  We have some really cool stuff planned for it, i just hope it's not over the top.

Look for painted frame pics towards the end of next week.

Today was really like Christmas!!!!!!  The rest of the parts arrived, well, all except a stem and spacers (Peter said he'd send spacer, but didn't, oh well)

Everything looks great.  There was a tiny nick on the bottom side of the down tube.  A little bummed about that, but I'm sure once I get riding there will be more, so not worried about it.  I am a little disappointed in some of the weights, especially the wheel set, but I have no doubt that it will be strong!

Now for some pictures.

Some 3k gloss!

Weave blends to UD near the BB and a few other spots.  I kind of like it, looks cool.

Weave on the fork blends to UD too.

Wheels look good!

Rear came in at 1020, with Novatec 881 Hub, with 32 holes, with 35 mm Hookless rim.

Front came in at 826 with Novatec 882, again with 32 holes and 35 mm hookless rim.

Got the wheels built up tonight, man the way the XX1 cassette mounts is weird.  Not very straight forward the first time to ensure that everything lines up correctly, only took about 5 times getting it halfway together and not feeling right.  (that's why I'm posting at 12:30)

Anyway, here's the built up front.  Had to do the tube in the tire to seat one side before going tubeless.

29er / Assembly Tech
« on: August 26, 2014, 01:20:58 AM »
Let's start a discussion about assembly tech.  Everything from tricks and tips to specs and how to.

I'd like to start off with a couple questions of my own.

When assembling, are people using Carbon Paste and if so what brand?

What torques are people using and what torque wrench are you using?

Went with Hopes for various reasons.  Wanted a two piece rotor, kinda light weight, something with a colored center, and I like the style.

I'm sure the overall will be different than my other setup, which is XT brakes with used Avid rotors on my Santa Cruz.

But when I'm done and get some miles on everything.

Reviews I found said Orange is better, but the Stans stems are the best, so I stopped and picked up some Stans stems today.

A few more goodies showed up today.

Rotors, BB, Seat, tire sealant.

Front rotor 180mm Hope, they are actually red, but look a little pinkish in this light.  158g  about 12g over what I thought.

Rear Rotor  160mm Hope  105g, about 13 g over what I thought.  I'll have to weight the bolts, I'm guessing they come to about 12g.

SRAM BB 111g, 8g less than planned

Ergon SM3 Pro  251g, about 6g over advertised.

And some Sealant, stems and rim tape.

Frame, Fork, wheels, etc should be showing up next week.  Frame will go to painter, then build will probably be another week or two out due to schedule.  But we'll see.

Enter.

Not building a 27.5 and I just ordered 2 riser bars, but spares can't hurt!

I'm in the same boat, almost literally, my tracking numbers arrived on Monday.  I forget the exact page, but I used an alternate site t OK run the tracking info.  While it just pulls from the EMS, it also links a map from google maps, so you can see where it is.  Being inSan Diego, I'm expecting to see my stuff early next week.

Haven't used them in 20 years myself, but I'm giving them a try on my in progress build.

So no good insight from me....
