I figured that was the case but wanted to make sure.

Had a little crash today and put a few scratches into my frame. They are cosmetic but not sure if I need to do anything to them?

I have been using Squirt on all my chains lately and really like it. The fine dust we have here and especially in places like Moab destroys chains, but Squirt has prolonged chain life and I can go longer between applications.

As far as pedals I use both. I mostly use clipless, but if I do a trail that has a lot of gnar and technical challenges I throw on some platform pedals.

If I were building a new mountain bike today, the choice between a Shimano and SRAM 1x11 drivetrain would be more difficult.  However, since I switched from being a Shimano guy to a SRAM guy for my last two 1x setups, I probably will not switch back on future builds.

Nothing wrong with that, at the end of the day both Shimano and SRAM make products that will get the job done more than good enough. So you should be going with what you feel most comfortable with and what you think feels the best.

Full XT 1x11 for less than $500 is a damn good deal compared to the price points you are going to get from SRAM and making it compatible with standard free hubs is a big deal. The new cranks look damn good to.

Great article and it explains it a lot. I think 1x is a great option but I don't mind the 2x10 setup I have. The minimal weight I add by having a 2x10 is not a big deal and it's nice to have the extra range if needed.

Surprised they made a 1x11 group set at a lower price point. With Shimano seeming to not care about putting out any competition on that front, they really had no pressure to do this.

Component Deals & Selection / Re: New bike rack - Saris Freedom Rack

I did a Google image search for Hollywood rack, and was quite disappointed by the results :)

Which one did you get?  Their 4 bike rack looks good- I really like that you can take off half of it when you only need to carry one or two bikes.

haha maybe turn safe search off ;)

I purchased the Sport Rider SE2 for the exact reason of being able to remove half of it. The only time I ever need to carry 4 bikes is when I am taking the kids bikes and that doesn't happen to often. It's heavy and probably not as convenient as the the Yakima or other really expensive ones but there is no way in hell I am spending over $500 on a bike rack.

Bdub, sorry I missed your post!  Yes, still very happy with the Swagman rack.  It's easy for my wife to use it as well, since you only have to lift the bikes about 2 feet off the ground- she's got a big, stretched out cruiser bike that is large and awkward to lift.

Cool glad you still like it. I decided to go with a Hollywood Rack, basically the same as the Swagman but has the ability to tilt back so you can open the back of our SUV.

I ordered my wheelset and fork from them. They have great prices and they even ship DHL free.

I've since purchased a new platform rack, when mounted the bike wheels are now well above and away from the exhaust pipe.  I still think about it when I load my Chiner with carbon wheels on the rack though.

What rack did you get as a replacement?

Oh I see, thought this was after you purchased that rack.

Is this a better suspension design than the one on the IP-036?

Had a friend who had this happen. He since has attached a piece of sheet metal to the front of his rack to deflect the heat. Just hooking up a trailer to my SUV I have noticed how hot the exhaust is, I can imagine that with no airflow it would heat the bike up really fast.

After The Ride / Re: Beautiful Day for a Ride

Only one rider saw what happened, we both laughed it off.

Good for you. I'm just glad you didn't hurt your leg again. Seen some pretty bad injuries from tipping over while still clipped in.
