29er / Re: IP-036 29er Full Suspension Carbon Frame Build
« on: December 19, 2014, 08:45:18 PM »
Yes, same frame size for both.  For me, at 5'-11", a Large (19") frame fit me well for both frames.

Geometry is different, even though the FS frame has a longer wheelbase, I feel like my seating position is a bit further forward.  However, both frames feel good and the geometry on both frames performed well.  Obviously there are differences and some compromises on a FS frame given the greater complexity.  The geometry of the IP-057 is similar to a Scott Scale, the IP-036 is similar to a Scott Spark if that helps you at all.

Thanks Carbon_Dude, I've committed.  There is a 5% discount for the next fortnight with Yoeleo, which helps with the Aussie $ having dropped by 10% against the USD in the last 6 months...  arrghh!!

Carbon_Dude -- you have both a hard tail and a soft tail.  Did you buy the same frame size for the two?  How different is the geometry?

I have a 19 inch hard tail (Yoeleo), and I'm just about to order a 19 inch soft tail (also Yoeleo), but I'd thought I'd check with someone whom has both a HT & ST before I commit...

My second build - the Yoeleo 27.5er soft tail (16 inch frame) for my daughter.

Now to order frame #3 -- a 29er soft tail for me!   :)

Actually, Iplay, Hongfu, Dengfu, Miracle sell almost same frames, but we have some private mould frames separately.

We all companies own the factory together. But some other factories copy our frames and sell at much cheaper price, some facttories make frames with glass fiber with carbon fiber together and they offer only 6 months warranty.

Glass fibre!!! What??  Anyone identify who is using glass, not carbon?

Fat Bikes / Re: Durability of Carbon Fat Bike Rims- any feedback?

I think that there are rocks, and then there are sharp rocks...  I have a second set of wheels with cheap tyres for my 26 Al FS for the trails behind my house because the sharp rocks slash the sidewalls.  I shudder to think of the expense of running fatty tyres over sharp rocks...

Assuming that you don't want to contend with sharp rocks, then I would guess that running at higher than the very low pressures that fatties normally run at (8psi) should give some protection to the rims. It'll depend on your weight and aggressiveness.  No jumping though! ;-)

OK MTB2223, I ducked home at lunchtime, trimmed another 15mm of the steerer tube, and played with the Neco headset top expander.  All works fine now.  Next--installing the gears & cable run, then brakes, and it's complete...

That's a tough break Carbon_Dude (pardon the pun!).

Get well soon...

(I'm using your thread to assemble a 27.5 full suspension Yoeleo for my daughter this week)...

23
Thanks -- I'll give that a go...

BTW, the neco site says that the one in the image is for carbon forks.  Will it work also for aluminium forks? (ie, instead of a star nut?)

24
Can you detail how to fit the headset?

I can not get the knurled expanding rings to engage, as the lower receiver just spins when I tighten it...

For Shimano HollowTechII, it's probably easiest to go an English thread BSA housing for your bottom bracket. As was said earlier, no specialist tools are required per se. I had never changed a BSA BB before, but after looking at YouTube, I had completed the job in under 5mins.

26
Joelk -- yes, silicon sounds a better choice...

I can't quite picture what the hole looks like -- could you send an image?

With limited knowledge, I would try using a rubber plug whittled down to size with a 'box cutter' razor blade...

G'day Squishee,

Regarding the 29er rigid fork - I only saw the 9mm QR offered by Yoeleo (Y-F-MTB-29).

I checked, and I'm running 2.20 at present, with plenty of clearance.  I've taken a few photos--it looks like the gap at the top of tyre level is in the order of 65m between the two legs of the fork..

For a form fit horizontal 'drop out' to single speed a chiner hard-tail frame - I'd pay $50USD easy...

As a note of caution however, I'd be keen to see the engineering, as the stress on the rear is going to be greater due to the additional leverage on the frame.

G'day stout_to_carbon,

BB30 is fine as it is not threaded. All BB30 receivers should be the same I believe.

Without a word of a lie, I have not seen that beercomponents SRAM shim before--that's the probable solution. But if it does not push the drive side out a mm of more, there is still the clearance issue with a SRAM XX (120BCD - lowest chainring is about 37T).

I can push a 2.5mm allen key in the gap between the sacrificial piece of adhesive aluminium I fitted on an inch lench of the chainstay (the aluminium is for psychological use only!)

I'm already committed to changing out my SRAM XX to replace it with a SHIMANO XT crankset that I'll remove the inner ring outright, and replace the big ring with a 30T narrow wide (ordered yesterday from chainreaction). The SRAM XX will be re-constituted to its original guise to be fitted to N+1, which is to be a chiner 29er dually after I finish my daughter's 650b chiner dually...

You know - last night I was looking at the dropouts of the frame, and realised that both left and right sides were actually aluminium screwed into the frame.  If we found someone who wanted to manufacture horizontal form fit replacements, we wouldn't need EBBs at all...
