So, does anybody know how good these hubs are? Equal to Hope Pro Evo?

29er / Re: New Build - Crowdsource Forum Project

^^ Looks like it really only takes a front triangle design cue from the Enduro. Slightly longer chainstays and slightly steeper headtube angle can change the ride quite a bit, I assume? Not necessarily a bad thing, may actually make it a better, more all rounded selection for this build.

So.. if this really is going to be a true crowd sourced project, which I think would be an interesting but difficult thing to pull off, I put my vote in for this frame!

Bike valued probably around $1100 after upgrades & accessories (pedals/tires/etc).
Still in the process. Originally an $800 bikesdirect bike.

Guessing I'll see somewhere between $250-550 towards my new bike from insurance after deductible but something the guy told me was that I'd have to provide proof of purchase each component I'm listing to be reimbursed for them. I'm still very much in the process so I'll figure it out as I go.

Regardless, might start with that BikesDirectBike so I have a function bike and purchase the carbon wheelset and frame afterwards still haven't done the research I've been meaning to do yet.

Crap that sucks man! Come on.. You can't be stealing a man's bike! Is there nothing sacred anymore?

Seriously.. that's crap. Especially since your insurance company isn't going to pony up any where close to what the bike was/is worth. Hopefully you get at least $500 - that's at least a hardtail carbon frame.

Even if he's assuming the role or psyching himself up to achieve great things.. don't think you really come back from that lol. You become it. Fake it til you become it.

Either way I like the guy and am also interested to see how this all unfolds. Will definitely be something to watch over the coming years. The race to the moon of our generation, so to speak.

After The Ride / Re: Most "Carbon'd Out" MTB???

Yeah, when I was day dreaming this thread up.. I was wondering about the hubs. Too lazy to Google it (bad I know) but never heard of pure carbon hubs. I'm sure if they aren't already available, then they will be soon enough.

Not sure about that suspension fork. First I've seen of it. Looks like a tuning fork or something - Pretty wild, and I'd assume they could make a frame that had that for the rear suspension, as well. I bet travel is pretty limited. Not knocking it, just saying.

After The Ride / Most "Carbon'd Out" MTB???
« on: June 01, 2014, 02:09:10 PM »
I was just thinking about all of the different carbon parts that are now available.. stems, bars, pedals, rims, forks, brake levers, brake pads, seats, etc., and got to wondering how close we are to a COMPLETELY carbon bike? I'm talking 100% carbon here, except hoses, tires and stuff like that. Although tires and hoses may even be in the future of carbon mtb:

So then I got thinking that maybe, possibly there already is a pretty much completely carbon bike, but even if not I thought it might be fun to start a thread to possibly see some bikes that are mostly carbon components.

So, if any of you know of some specific examples of some MTBs (or really any kind of bike, I suppose) that are closer than average to being total carbon, I'd love to see them! Thanks.

Thanks fellas!

$10-$20 is about what these little cheap plastic seats SHOULD cost lol.

For that price I will definitely buy one to try out. If I don't like it - No biggie.

Does any of you guys know which supplier it is they got that seat from? It's obviously a knock off of the Tioga:

Also, damn, that carbon Lefty continues to be one of the sexiest piece of kit imo.

I have to agree, extremely nice bike ya got there.

Until reading this thread I honestly was mostly unfamiliar the dual control suspension options that are available. It's all pretty interesting, really and makes me question what exactly it is that I NEED in my bike build. All part of the fun, I suppose.

Good to see that you figured out that the Scott lever was so superior looks like it improved the ergonomics a ton. And yeah.. the baby blue bits are nice too. Got lucky there it seems lol.

Yeah I say don't stress it too much. That said, the 3M tape you mentioned is the best way to go from what I've read. Never actually used it myself.. but it's what I plan on using when my chiner is ready for it..

Look like it will be a very nice build to me.

Stem length is just one of those things that you can guess at all you want but it eventually comes down to experience and trial and error. In other words, you may not get it right the first time so don't buy the world's most expensive stem. The option that SN linked to earlier in this thread truly is a steal if you need a 100mm stem.

So the non remote Fox CTD shock lets you have a trail mode that is fine tunable? You say you can feel much less movement between settings so we're not talking about subtle changes in suspension here but completely and drastically different functioning suspensions via the flip of a tiny lever?

Sorry, I've never messed with any of these newer shocks. Had a plain old fox float back in the day when they first started coming out with propedal and all that.

Component Deals & Selection / Best Dropper Post?
« on: May 15, 2014, 04:12:14 PM »
Along with my adoption of full suspension, I'm also thinking I may go the way of a dropper post. They obviously are not cheap (or light) but most say they are more than worth it in both instances. I've read where a lot of riders said it was the single biggest upgrade they've made to their bikes. I'm currently reading up on the KS Lev, Rock Shox Reverb, and the Thomson Elite Dropper seat post.

Seems I can get the reverb for close to a hundred dollars less than the other two options. Anybody have any experience with either of the three above, or have any other recommendations?

Thanks.

Very nice build, SN! The polished stem looks really sharp. How are you finding the steering? I've stumbled across probably the same articles you did about the benefits of a shorter stem, but also like Carbon Dude alluded to, it could get twitchy. Let us know what you think, after you get a feel for the bike.

Ah, but with the Scott frame you can change the BB height by fiddling with the lower shock mounting point.  That's gotta be worth the extra $2,000, and I'm sure you will change it once :).

Just more parts than slowly work themselves loose over the miles. Seriously, that seems like a totally pointless feature. I would pay extra for a bike that did not have that feature. Maybe I'm missing something, here.
