I have the bleed kits for both Shimano and SRAM (Avid) brakes.  In my opinion, the SRAM brakes are easier to bleed but I like that Shimano uses fluid that doesn't remove paint.

Building a chiner and not bleeding your self ? That sound ridiculous to me  :) One of the reasons for me to build a chiner was to learn everything about a bike.

I learned to bleed Hopes' brakes. No special tool needed.
And Shimano's. You need the special kit for these.

Both are easy to do... once you did it a couple of times :)
