How Things Work: Freehub Body

(1/2) > >>

Carbon_Dude:
Some good info on freehub bodies.  You can see why I think DT Swiss makes a good design, especially for the money.  However, if money was not an issue, Chris King hubs are truly amazing and I can see why they are so expensive.

Very good article. Thanks!

By the way, do you know why my DT Swiss rear hub lost its total silence?
Is it just grease? Do you put it often?

I would assume it just needs to be re-greased or have the correct grease.  DT Swiss makes special star ratchet grease that is a particular viscosity which gives the star ratchet just the right amount of sound.  Once I used Park Tools grease and the hub got very quiet.  If the freehub is very noisy I would assume that it's just dry and needs lubricant.
