Hardtail with suspension SEAT TUBE.
« on: November 14, 2018, 10:54:23 AM »
You read that right, suspension seat tube. I just saw this being sold on a local FB bike group and wanted to know if anybody knows what frame and which Chiner company is selling this. While at it, does anyone here owns one? How does the suspension work?

And then there's this carbon fibre suspension fork.

Intriguing... Do you think there is some kind of rubber damping around the axle ?

@Carbonazza, it is intriguing indeed. l've been looking at those pictures for quite some time and I couldn't tell how the "suspension" works. I messaged the guy posting that ad but he has yet to respond.

I was actually hoping someone here have some knowledge of it.

I think the word "suspension" is a bit misleading in this case.  I suspect you will find it is actually only dampening of "trail chatter" and this is acheived through the flex of the quadrilateral that is the top tube, down tube, seat and chain stays. Normally these would be stiffened by the seat tube but because the top isn't fixed the quadrilateral will have flex in it.

I also think that pic is only a proto-type or "mock up". Have a look at the stays, all 4 of them have a small section of tube joined into them to lengthen the rear dropout from the bb.

It may well be legitimate but I would be wary about dropping coin on that until you found someone that has bought from that buyer.

@emu26, I vote for your suspicion !  :D
A flexing rear triangle is common now, so it could be an extension of that function to the whole frame.
It looks indeed a mockup, and the connection between the seatstays is a bit thin...

"Dampener" does seem like an aft description for that frame. The guy never did reply to my inquiry.
