Chinese Compressionless Brake Housing?
« on: May 13, 2021, 03:15:35 PM »
Hi Everyone!

Speccing my first China build, and the goal is to get as close to 100% China branded as possible.
One place where I have had no luck is non compressible brake housing.
I will be running cable actuated hydraulic disk callipers, and understand non compressible housing improves performance.

I will be internally routing, so those segmented metal housings are out of the question.

Any recommendations? Or am I stuck with Yokozuna or Jagwire?

Thanks!

Are you using the ZTTO/ZRACE calipers? If so, definitely let us know how they perform for you.

I went for (hopefully better performing) Tektro/TRP brakes with Jagwire KEB-SL housing. Still waiting for my frame though ...

Not the classical compressionless, but maybe an option?

I am going with the Taiwanese Juin Tech GT-F.
I know, "Chinese" but not exactly "China"
But I have not heard a bad thing about these calipers, so on the parts list they go.

Also tires.  Have not heard of a good tubeless tire coming out of China yet.

Thanks. I checked these out too, but I reckon they can't be internally routed, or if they can I will lose 10 years of my life due to frustration

I’m currently building my first chiner too, and couldn’t find chinese compressionless housing, so I web’t with this: https://www.wiggle.co.uk/trp-cableset?sku=100591397
10£ cheaper than jagwire is a nice saving imo.

Also I’m going for the ztto calipers, can report back when installed

Thanks for the tip! I'll check the TRP cables out

Hello,

any updated in your build? I posted in several posts about internal routing frames because I had several problems with the installation of the outer cables routing trough the area of the stem to the frame. http://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,3499.0.html

I started using Juin tech F1 calipers with jag wire outer cables but the gap in between the stem and frame was so small that it made kink the outer cables.

On my second attempt I trim the spacers of the steerer to make the gap bigger and it worked better but as the outer cables were already kinked the inner cables were not running super smooth.

My third and currently attempt  was to use cheap outer cables for the brakes that are far more flexible and now the inner cables run smoothly, but, I can feel that the outer cables are not so efficient as the jag wire.

My last attempt will be (as soon as I receive all the new parts) using jag wire outer cables all the way but with a small but of the cheap outer cable in the area of the tight bending.
Hopefully it will give me the best performance possible.

.

I've heard other people have issues routing the stiffer compressionless housing internally as well.

On the Velobuild handlebars, I was able to manage but routing through the handlebars was a total nightmare.
There are some tight angles in the housing, which is unavoidable I suppose regardless of the housing used, but no kinks.

Braking performance seems unaffected.

How is your work around working out for you?
