WheelTop EDX OS Series Wireless MTB Drivetrain

Some competition to SRAM:
https://bikerumor.com/wheeltop-wireless-mtb-drivetrain-12-speed/
It can(still not sure how) be configured for 7 to 12 speed cassettes.

Probably just configurable within a utility app?
Better than average - Extra Average

That would be great indeed.

That's something that I always thought SRAM should be able to do with AXS.  Configurable speeds since it's all electronic.

I'd be interested in this if the price was better, much better. It's €500 ish on AliExpress anywhere I've seen it, people will just buy axs.

Clutch looks a bit strong, but I suppose difficult to tell.

Really hope the final production version is good ... Shimano and SRAM deserve a kick in the teeth for the ridiculous pricing and feature gating.

Thread back from the dead, about a product that appears to be dead too.

https://loveforbikes.com/mysterious-disappearance-of-chinese-electronic-rear-derailleur-wheeltop-eds-ox/

I purchased a set of the EDS system last August.  I am getting ready to put it on one of my bikes.   Though about purchasing another set, and they are nowhere to be found for sale.

Bummer...

I wrote Wheel Tops asking them what happened that they stopped manufacturing and selling them.

Wheeltop responded to my query of why they are no longer available on Aliexpress, or direct sale.

Where are you come from?We only sell them in select areas.

Best regards
wheeltop sales

I replied back stating USA.  They replied:

Sorry, we will contact you as soon as the sale starts in the United States.

Best regards
wheeltop sales

They must have been caught copying at least some part of a SRAM's system and had their hands slapped so that they can't export to a bunch of countries around the world.

It is difficult for "we the consumers" when someone else improves upon a design that is patented and the patent holders intentionally do not improve the product because the company is milking the cow for all it is worth because a few companies own the market.

I hope Wheeltop filed patents for their innovative approach to having a rear derailleur that works with 7 speed through 13 speed cassettes.   Market threat to all the others who want to sell us rear derailleurs that only work for a given speed cassette.

Update on Wheel Top EDX drivetrain.

I have 2 of these derailleurs on my latest 29er hardtail 1 X 12 builds.   I really love how these electric derailleurs are working.  First install has around 100 flawless off road miles, the second one was installed this morning and I went out and rode 20 fun miles of trails and single track.

There are a few sellers on Aliexpress that list them for sale and will ship to the USA.
I believe that I am hooked on these wireless electric derailleurs.   I have not owned either Scumano or SCRAM electronic systems, therefore I can't compare the EDS to them, but so far the EDS OX is a fantastic upgrade.

What is the point of buying wheeltop edx while a GX AXS is cheaper and proven?
Or is the quality of wheeltop more on the same level as XX1 groupset?

Here is why I went this direction versus SRAM.

-  Weight, my EDS OX, with battery, weighs 350 grams.   XX1 weighs 373 grams, X01 =390 grams, GX-AXS weighs 463 grams.

-  My inspection indicates that the manufacturing, quality and finish of the EDS is right up there with XX1 and XO1.  (Therefore my cost delta comparison is EDS VS at least X01)

-  (Not that I need this feature) but using the WheelTop app, lets you reconfigure the derailleur to work with 8 through 13 speed cassettes compatible with almost all brands of cassettes.)  Wow! something generic in the world of proprietary shifting systems where the the 3 big boys intentionally change and make your groupset obsolete every few years and you can't mix and match parts between brands, because they "optimize" shifting to one set of specific parts.

- At least to date, the shifting is smooth, fast, and quiet and with only a push of the button.  Side note:  I have been wanting to go electric/wireless for a couple years now because of a right wrist injury and increasing arthritis on the back of my hands that causes sharp pain having to shift standard Mtn bike shift pods)

Time will tell if I still love this product a year from now.

Now this is very interesting...

Looks like in May 2023 at the Taipei Cycle show WheelTop showed 2 other versions of their EDS OX derailleurs.  Ones with 58mm and 75mm cages.   Articles state they are for road, hybrid or folding bike applications with flat handlebars.  (Likely because the shift pod is sized to 22.2 diameter flat handlebars rather than drop road bars).

I do really like this approach of letting us truly choose the cage, numbe of speeds and mounting.
If only we weren't restricted by the braking lever on the road. STI was a disaster for consumers
