The Rd270 combo works out to be over 100g lighter.

Has anyone used this combo and compared it to a tried and trusted dt240+sapim combo? How does it perform in comparison?

I dont think anyone has enough mileage rd270 combo to really know regarding reliability. The magic of the dt240 hubs is that they just keep running. I think the rd270 based wheels are about $1000?

I personally think they are a great option for a light weight build and bragging rights, but the old dt240 or the current 350 would be what I would get and in that price range spend a little more get some rims with actual aero credentials to make up any potential performance gap based on weight.

All my wheels run either the older 240 or the newer versions of the 350 and if / when the bearings go they will all get the 240 bearings but its a theoretical conversation because despite clocking over 20,000 gravel miles and seeing a pressure washer a couple times a month, my most used set still doesn't need anything more a hub regrease every 6 months.

Yeap I have been reading the thread but was hoping for more feedback from a potentially different crowd.

Was wondering whether the stiffness and reduced aerodynamic penalty of 20spoke carbon vs 24spoke sapim has any tangible benefit as opposed to all the attendent risks and maintenance issues.

I have a 1450+g 33.3mm wide 50mm wheelset on novatec411 and sapim which has been chugging fine for 2 years.

Intending to get a new statement custom wheelset to see if it feels better.

Under this configuration it will be about wave profile 1300g+ 50mm/34mm front 60mm/32mm rear. Which should give me both aero and weight gains as well as looking alot more premium.

I personally like the design of the rd270 spoke system over others, but I personally think they are too much of a faff to deal with in terms of trueing and replacing spokes. I dont want to wait to get a spoke shipped from China and hope they have spares if I break one. Also, I double check how true my wheels are once inflated which I couldnt do with those carbon spokes so I plan to wait for the next gen.

Can you even get the wave rims in a 20 hole pattern? They seem to be laced to the peak of each wave for 24h

I was quoted that config by the sales rep when I asked what could be done to lighten the configuration that was originally quoted with the dt240 exp so I hope it's not an error with on her part. Will see when she reverts with final price and answer.

Are you after the wave rims for looks? In terms of performance they're worse than regular rims

Funny enough, I had not heard of these wheels from Farsports/Wheelsfar until last night on this forum. Thanks for raising awareness.

Did about 30 minutes of research on WW. Now I want a set of 50mm 30ext 24int glossy UD wheels, carbon spokes on the RD270  8)

I've gotten so accustomed to 23mm internal with 28/30c tires that now even 21mm int wheels feel slightly harsh. What a time to be alive.

So I will admit to not having done research on pricing and missed that these are quite a bit cheaper on Aliexpress right now than they are on the Wheelsfar sales channel.

At $820 + $121 for the 50mm deep wheels + you can use coupons and get cashback. Its a really interesting wheel for like $850 all in. My experience has told me that usually wheels like these that don't go through aero optimization are usually slower / less stable than wheels that have but also the testing data out there shows that profile and tire match to rim matters less as wheels get deeper. But even if the 50mm is "only comparable" to a 40/45mm wheel they are lighter and a lot cheaper than anything from Reserve or Enve. I am thinking of rolling the dice too.

;D that's a $1000~ Chiner wheelset not some super exotic sub 1000 grams wheelset. Plenty of people putting down that kind of money on wheels here just may be not on these exact wheels.

Is it noticeable because of the internal width or because of the tire width itself? The 35c (25mm IW) on my gravel bike feel really comfortable compared to 28c (21mm IW) but I always though it was because of the tire width and not IW.

It's the internal width that matters. The greater volume of air makes it act like a significantly wider tire.

I went from a 26mm wide/19mm internal wheel to a 33.3mm wide/ 25mm internal wheel using the same tires and the difference in çomfort was clear even when running at the same pressure. Further lowering the pressure made it dramatic.

More for the potential performance, if they help with looks its icing on the cake.

So far the responses range from no difference to being slightly more stable so I don't think they will be any worse because the theory behind it seems sound.

Also some report that the wave rims do seem stiffer than conventional ones.

the old princetons that are just like the wave rims test pretty bad in the windtunnel and the vast majority of wheel stiffness comes from the spokes, the rim doesn't affect it much except fot a deeper rim meaning a wider bracing angle for the spokes

Ok the sales rep made a mistake. Rd270 being 20spoke is not compatible.

The one that's compatible is RD360 which will be heavier and even with carbon spokes will be similar to dt240 exp + cxray in weight.

RD270 is a 20 carbon spoke hub. The wave rim shouldn't be 20 spoke compatible. Here are some of the hubs they use https://h-works.cn/products/
