Carbon wheelset recommendation
« on: October 20, 2024, 10:02:34 AM »
Hi!

I'd like to pick your minds to help me choose a wheel set to buy for my road endurance bike.
I'd like to pair it with Conti GP5000 32c tires, and it seems that if I want the aero benefits, the market doesn't offer too many choices - I didn't see many wheels with 34+ external width. Therefore I consider going narrower with the tires, down to 30mm, if it helps.
The preferred depth is 45-50mm, same for front and rear.
Weight isn't of highest importance, but of course the lighter, the better.

I'm not racing right now, but I am considering participating in long distance events with some gravel sections. I'd estimate maybe 80/20 road to gravel ratio overall, as my weekly rides also tend to venture into some light gravel.

Budget is around 900$ with shipping to EU. If there are cheaper options, happy to consider them of course. If something is slightly above, I will also give it a thought.
I am happy to wait for 11/11 or Black Friday if it's worth it.

Thank you for any suggestions!  :)

Peter from Xiamen carbon speed has 34mm rims in 50mm depth, i can recommend XCS, got 6 sets from him. Others seem to be happy too. I've ridden mine plenty. To be fair wheels are very commoditized now so i dont think there's a secret sauce, but Peter has rims wider than most and is very easy to deal with, you can message him on whatsapp or by email (he's on the forum).
You'll be under budget with his wheels. 900 is a lot of coin for an OEM wheelset.

Fast on the flat. And nowhere else.
