Cheap thumb friction shifter?
« on: April 19, 2025, 12:07:57 AM »
Hi folks,

Can anyone recommend cheap but reliable thumb friction shifters? To be mounted on a straight bar, to shift 1x10 Microshift or 1x11 Sensah SRX.
This is for a commuter build using spare parts, and the Microshift ones seem expensive . Looks like people also like vintage Deore or Sunrace Power Ratchet shifters, but those are kind of pricey too.

Also, can someone explain why the Microshift friction shifters come in different versions? (https://www.microshift.com/products/components/shifters/bar-end-thumb/) I thought friction shifters could basically shift anything irrespective of cable pull ratios...

Thanks!

From the models of shifters that I looked at — they can be switched from friction to indexed. The different models are for the indexing compatibility. If you’re using them in purely friction mode, it shouldn’t matter which model you choose.
