List of 29er Hardtail Frames
« on: June 04, 2014, 10:56:23 PM »
Okay so reading through a through a thread today and realized I don't even know what all frames are currently available - Fairly certain I'm not alone. All these unbranded, unstickered, numbered, all matte black frames are hard to keep up with!

So I thought it logical to start a thread compiling what all frames are available.

I'll start separate threads for hardtail and full suspension, and the threads will be stickied and moderated to remove duplicate entries and posts that do not add to the conversation. You're free to ask all the questions you like about the below frames.. but please do start another thread to do so. You are more than welcome to post in this thread - in fact, please do! - It just needs to be in the format that we collectively decide on - a standard level of info will make this thread all the more valuable as more and more frames become available.

This is strictly an info resource, and in order for it be of actual value then it will need more than just random mentions and discussions of frames. Therefore all posts should ideally aim to provide most of the following information:

name of frame
other known names of frame
amount of travel (if applicable)
weight (if known.  this isn't mandatory bc we don't always have the info readily available however it is a major factor in most people's decision)
price (this can vary between vendors - doesn't have to be exact but at least a price range would be helpful for people)
picture of just frame
picture of frame assembled into complete bike

That should about cover most of the important points. Like I said, this isn't about having strict standards really.. I just feel that a solid effort to provide the basic information will result in a much more valuable resource for people. If the information is limited, no biggie, we can always add it later on if it becomes available. So if you see a listing with some info missing that you happen to know.. feel free to chime in and one of us will add it to the original listing.

To start, here's some geometries of some of the most popular frames:

FM218

CS-MB01

CS-041

CS-256-SL

WCB-M-062

And here is a chart Carbon_Dude made up containing geometries for some name brand frames for comparison:

The IP-057

Originally, the version of the frame without the 142x12mm rear end was called the IP-056 but now there is just the 057. Here's a thread with additional info such as headset specifications and geometry charts. http://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,3.0.html

Depending on where you purchase it from the 057 will cost you about $500 shipped. Comes with option of BSA or BB30 bottom bracket with the claimed weights:

15.5'' - 1230g+/-40g,
17.5'' - 1260+/-40gg,
19'' - 1285g+/-40g,
21'' - 1310+/-40g

I've got some new pictures of the IP-256 from Peter. The first edition of the IP-256 had an option for external cable routing and there were some cable bolts visible on the pictures. This option isn't available anymore.

The new pictures shows an IP-256 with the QR option. 142x12 option is still available.

The 256SL is almost a straight copy of the Open 1.0...with the exception of the slacker head tube.

Can any proud owner of IP-256SL with BSA BB measure BB width for me (68mm, 73mm or some other value) ?

Thank you JoelK, it is unfortunate though, I hoped for 68mm.

This is IP-106 from Iplay , size 16/18/20'', 135 and 142 interchangeable , but for the size 18/20, when I build it , i found we should use  the rear disc brake line should be  155cm.  for example the Shimano's XT 135mm line is too short.

I'm trying to find a frame that fits me well, so i'm looking into geometric numbers
of the different frames.
I miss the stack and reach numbers on the IP-256.. I need to know them for the 21" frame to make a good decision on which frame i need. Prolly others need to know them for the other sizes aswell.

Secondly on most bikes you see the geometry on a axel to crow length of 506 mm. Why?
The rigid fork you van get are around 480 ish simulating atleast a 100 mm travel fork.
506mm axel to crown would be like a 130mm travel fork..  Nothing any XC rider would put on I suspect..
So what good do these stack bb drop and reach and head and seat tube angles do.. They change into a different numers for sure which makes things kind of a mess for me.

Hope somebody van shed some light;)

IP-256 is almost exact copy of Scott Scale 9XX Carbon series, you should find stack and reach on Scott webpage.
