29er full suspension all mountain or trail bike
« on: April 26, 2017, 06:43:00 PM »
Newbie here, so please excuse my ignorance.  Just learning...

I am looking to build a chiner 29er trail or all mountain bike, theoretically with 140mm travel on the front fork.  Problem is I can't find the right full suspension frame that will accommodate that amount of travel.  Looked at various 036 models, but the specs are 100 or 120mm for front travel.

Any ideas on how to proceed with this?  All suggestions and smirks welcomed!

To be honest there really isn't much out there that I'm aware of. There was the CS-098, but not many people built it and it wasn't very well known. Let me know if you're curious about it. I can post geometry and frame pics from Peter. He still can get them, they're just not on his website.

Yes, that would be great.  I would love to see CS-098.  I also found another frame (labelled "ALL MOUNTAIN") - FM 356.  I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this:

I've seen this design for a 27.5 from a chinese company a few years back but never seen it built anywhere. Looks like a VPP/DW-LINK/Maestro copy. 150mm of rear travel is also interesting.

lRalphl,

Which frame reminds you of the Maestro?  098?  356?   I'd love to get a frame that has VPP/DW-LINK.

Thanks for your help.

I'm talking about the FM356. You can see the link just over the bottom bracket.

And the other 27.5 frame I'm talking about was on Velobuildmall.com around 2 years ago and had something around 130-140mm of rear travel. I came close of buying it and ended up with a IP-036 instead. That frame on TanTan Cycling seems to be the same as the one I'm talking about.

As promised here is the geometry and image of the 098 frame. It reminds me of the Specialized Enduro. I may have been wrong on the suspension dimensions, so some further digging is needed.

I dug up this old thread. OP was running a 140mm front, but notice the rear is only 100. Not sure if this is a big deal to you or not.
