Advice on reliable disc rotors from china
« on: June 20, 2022, 05:40:49 AM »
Im doing my build with sram hydraulic calipers so Im after rotors with 1.8 mm thickness.
I want something like the SRAM Centerline X 140mm back and 160mm front. They only weigh 102g and 118g, really lightweight, but the price is quite high. +100 USD for both.
Ive been trying to find discs like them on aliexpress but to no success, any of you got advice for lightweight, reliable rotors with 1.8mm thickness, centerlock?

Thanks

(tell me if this is the wrong forum part and ill move the thread)

I did a comprehensive search last month; unfortunately, there is nothing lightweight on AliE with center lock.

Rotors are pricy and if you want lightweight and reliable then you have to look at Shimano Dura ace or XTR, SRAM or brands like KCNC.

These ones look to be the lightest center lock available https://www.bike24.com/p2316268.html?sku=1102179
I have a friend fitted with these on his Tarmac SL7 with Force axs calipers and he is eating through brake pads way more than with standard rotors as the holes are so big and harsh on the pads.

And yes, XTR/Dura ace rotors are pricy much more so now during the pandemic! Like 15-20 bucks higher per rotor

AliE can only offer some cheap 6 bolt rotors, still not the lightest but very cheap compared to established brands.

I’ve had success with IIIPRO rotors.
They do have lightweight, but as eucalyptus has mentioned, they aren’t centrelock
Mine came in about 90ish grams for 160mm

I use them with centrelock adapters.  But of course, that adds weight…
Then again, using the adapters saves you the weight of using six bolts…

Did a deep dive last week trying to find some good center lock rotors as well but it seems like there's not much out there. I was looking for something similar to shimano's Ice tech but it seems like nothing else stacks up performance wise. Interested to see if anyone else how found something that is on par with the more premium rotors.

I've used the 6 bolt adapters and they work, however I'd prefer to have the standard center lock.

I have Deckas lightweight rotors on my road bike, but I’m not sure they come in center lock. All my wheels are six bolt. The performance is good and they’re certainly light.

Thanks for the reply. Good to hear I'm not the only one that can't find lightweight center lock.
These are the lightest 6 bolt I've found so far,

tho adapters will add like 30g a piece. Don't know how good it works with adapters, 6 bolt to centerlock. Anyone of you got experience? Centerlock to 6 bolt seems common but not the other way.

I run 6-bolt to centerlock.
No fuss.  Works great.
And is the weight 30g for the adapter, or 30g net?

What adapter do you use? On Aliex I can only find centerlock to 6-bolt.
The only 6-bolt to centerlock I found is this one

They are 37g a piece

i use ashima ac03. i think they might be lighter than 37g... cant remember. but they should be on aliexpress for cheaper than the one you linked.

if i remember correctly, they also make lightweight rotors but i dont know how they perform. im guessing similar to brands like kcnc

Thanks for the advice. I probably misunderstood the description of the items... 6-bolt to centerlock, are you converting the wheel hub to centerlock or the disc rotor from 6 bolt to centerlock?
I assumed it was the first but it seems the second. Then I can give the 68g rotors with converters a go. Should add up to 68 + 30g, so ~100g / rotor.

The adapter on AliX change your rotor from 6 bolt to center.
It looks like these
https://a.aliexpress.com/_mseBQRC

The weight gain should be less than 30g.  The adapters i have were 24g.   6 bolts weigh about 12g.  Subtract that because enough won't need the bolts.  Net weight increase is 12g

This is the rotor I use, in 160mm. Comes in at 87g
https://a.aliexpress.com/_msWRXj8

So, 87+24-12 = 99g

Why do you need to subtract 12g for the bolts? Neither of these weights include 6 bolts so i think it wouldnt be necessary? Or am i missing something?
