Anyone have experience with any of the super budget bottom brackets like this

Are they viable?

Don't have the one you linked but a very similar one from ZTTO. Using it since a year/~10.000km on my race bike. No issues whatsoever. I did service the crankset a few weeks ago and the bearing in the BB still seemed fine. Bought mine for less than USD 9 on a sale. Probably not as "spinny" as those fancy, high-priced ceramic BBs but not sure how much of a real performance gain that is once you install a chain and put some actual force into the cranks. They are not falling apart after 500km if that was you question regarding "viability" :D

Summer Sale is coming next week. This is probably the largest midyear sale. I'll be looking forward to any additional coupons atop the savings!  ;)

Funny enough they are highlighting them with a banner ad on their store front page. Link is dead though. Probably going to release them anytime now: https://elitewheels.aliexpress.com/store/1859081

Looks like another one of those rims that is needlessly wide at the rim edge. Also wheels with 1:1 spoke arrangements just shouldn't be laced radially on one side

SillyMochi

I'm not super deep into wheel tech but curious. Can you elaborate why?
Slow on the climb. And everywhere else.

toxin

Radially laced spokes have an inherent geometrical advantage that will result in better lateral stiffness compared to crossed spokes. However they are very poor and possibly dangerous for transmitting torsional loads, which is why the disc side spokes need to be crossed, to transmit braking forces to the rim and tyre. Because the disc requires room to be mounted on the hub, the flanges and spokes need to be moved further towards the centre of the hub. This further worsens the geometry they are working with, in regards to resisting lateral forces on the rim, making that side of the wheel less laterally stiff.

So the disc side now has significantly worse lateral stiffness due to the double whammy of worse bracing angle and spoke arrangement. In order to counteract that and attempt to even out the lateral stiffness on both sides, you can reduce the number of spokes on the non-disc side by half (it can't really be more or less than that unless you want to create the mother of all headaches to design the rest of the wheel). The Roval CLX II nailed this almost perfectly with 18 spokes laced 2:1 and very even lateral stiffness

Thank you for that in-depth explanation. Makes a lot of sense the way you put it!
