I would say so.  Here are a few of mine with 25mm road tires and 38mm pathfinder pro knobby gravel tires.  Lots of clearance left.

Quick update: If you're running VB's supplied headset and c-clip, then be advised that if you ordered before June 2023, you may have an older style C-Clip.  As documented on other VB bikes in this forum, there was a headset play issue that is largely resolved with the newer notched style c-clip.  I say this to be cautious, though it really is not there on my build at least.

My dude. Thank you for that thorough account of the build and the beautiful pictures. I have been shopping this frame to do a Cx build for the ‘23 season. Injury at practice put the season on hold but gave me time to think about doing a build with the CX002. Now is ordered and on its way. My build will be on a slow cooker through spring but I’ll do my best to post updates as I go. Thanks again.

Updates: CX is here!  Overall, still really happy with the bike. 

Issue: I'm not sure if it's headset related, but I have an issue where the stem loosens up over the course of a 2 hour ride, especially if it's a bumpy washboard gravel ride or a single-track ride.  From reading other forums about this topic, I think it may actually be the integrated handlebar stem clamp that may be the issue.  I'll keep playing around with it.  I upgraded the compression plug to a 90mm unit which seems to help, but overall, the system doesn't want to stay tight; the standard compression plug keep creeping up the steerer tube about 3mm.  I also managed to strip out the stem hardward, so I'll have to get a better set.   

Tires: I also upgraded to some 40mm Pirelli Cinturato Gravel-M tires since the PP38's were just not gripping enough for me off road, likely since I'm used to 2.4/60mm MTB tires..  These definitely solve that issue.  BRR says they roll slightly slower than the PP38's, but I think it's negligible, and the cornering speed is only a little slower than my xc bike! 

I also did a CX race with it.  I took off the 48T chain ring for extra clearance, so I was left with a 1x: 31 x 11-34, which was plenty for me at my current fitness level.  I'm still getting used to bunny hopping on drop bars, but overall, the frame is nice and sturdy!  The headset and stem were a little rattly at the end tho, so I'll keep fiddling with it.

Thanks for the report. I ordered the frame in a 56 and arrived to the US lighting fast. 5 business day from ordering. Looking forward to a slow build over the next few months. Would love to hear more how you manage the loosening headset situation. I also went with the integrated handlebar/stem combo although I am already thinking maybe that was a poor choice. Regardless , all build it in and try out. The CX scene is in full swing here but I am sitting it out due to injury. Sigh!

Is this frame still worth it? I tried a velobuild aerograv and realized that I hate high trailed bikes. I also don't need 50c+ tires. I was mainly looking at this from a wider tire road frame angle as it has very low trail, 53 or smt. but bb height gives me doubts. I have looked at many chiner frames but I couldn't find much, everything either has high trail or very slack head tube. If anyone has any recommendations I'd appreciate otherwise I think this is the only option.

my current CX frame might be totaled so I've been looking at bikes similar to what you describe. Right now I'm between this and the new tantan gr060 which has a little more BB drop, a little more stack, and a little more tire clearance than the CX002. The headtube and seattube angles are similarly aggressive on both, depending on the size.

I have a separate gravel bike with MTB tire clearance and more slack geo so my focus is on a CX race day machine. I opt for a cross bike with 38mm slicks instead of my road or gravel bike on most of my training rides anyways regardless of surface and either bike seems like they would be great at that.

I've had this frameset for a couple of years and I'm super happy with it. I can actually fit 45mm tires on it which is cool and have done many gravel events with it. I'm moving on to a different frameset for a proper gravel setup with wider tires but I'll keep this as my all-road bike. The last race I did with it was the BWR in California and performed really well.
