Newish ZEROING crankset - Ingrid clone

Hey guys,

it seems we donˈt have a thread on the new crankset by ZEROING. Heaps of offers on Aliexpress currently and as far as Iˈm concerned they pretty much look like a copy of the Ingrid crankset.
Really like the looks of them, and Iˈm seriously contemplating in using them on a Neo Retro build I am currently building up. However what sets me off is the 24mm alloy axle and the mounting system that goes with it. Looks pretty much like the Fovno Phantom/Ghost axle and Iˈve heard of the crankbolt shearing off on them. Iˈve also already seen a review from someone who had his crankbolt shearing off on them aswell so I am fearing that this beautiful crankset is suffering from the same problems as the Fovnos.
Has anyone found a trick to make these 24mm alloy axles on chinese cranksets last?

I'm using 3 bikes with 24mm alloy axle spindles (2 carbon, 1 hollow alloy). I'll report back after a few hundred miles/kilometers. I'm wondering if the issue is with improper clamp bolt torque settings? Just ask any of these sellers and they have no clue what the settings are.

I have those cranks and that same bolt broke on mine after about 10 miles.

I've always been wary of chinese parts or frames that are obvious copies. They tend to have more effort invested in aesthetics than functionality. Nonetheless I almost ordered one of these because they do look really good. Glad I waited a bit.

Yeah after reading up on the Fovno cranksets and other reviews of this crank some more, Ive decided to give these a hard pass aswell. No point in paying a 100 bucks for nice looking cranksets that will fail after a couple of months or even just after 10 miles.

I'm wondering what goes through these manufacturers minds sometimes - it would be really easy for them to fix this problem: simply install a well made steel crank bolt instead of the alloy bolts as they seem to hold about as much torque as swiss cheese.

I have 2 of these cranksets.  I only ridden 1 ride and other still in box.  I put blue threadlocker on but I didn't like how it was wider than my other cranks so not using them.  If I ever use them gunna use red thread locker or expoy.  If they fail I'll tap and grub screw the basters together.

The alloy axle cranksets I've been using are Shimano compatible. Though you still need to use the same pre load crank bolt provided with the crankset. No issues yet, but I do periodically check them.

I'm curious about a detail, is the crankarm bolt hollowtech2 compatible? And what does it take to install? Hex 6mm? 8mm? Some proprietary bs?

First thing I thought when I saw the ZEROING cranks is:  OMG, how would I ever keep all those little divots clean?  They are on the front and back side of the arms.  If I can't wipe then down quickly with a cloth No way would I want to have to get out a hose or the pressure washer to clean those hole out

I'm confused as to how these are supposed to work. Is the crank bolt on the ds arm not captured below an extraction nut? From the looks of it, there isn't even a proper way to pull the ds crank arm off(?!)

Also, the bolt seems to have suffered from lowish thread engagement, but I might just be misjudging the picture.

These crank arms probably require a crank arm extraction tool.  They used to be more common before many manufacturers stated installing self extracting arms. ( A top cap where the threaded bolt pulls the arm off as you turn the bolt.)

I can't make out a thread for that to grab on in the picture (but it's too blurry). Even so, it seems kind of weird to put one self-extracting arm and one that requires an extractor from when f***ing-pos-I-hope-it-dies-in-a-fire-good-riddance square tapers still were a thing into one and the same crank set ... in 2023 no less.

It's a questionable design choice, is what I'm getting at, I guess.

Bumping this one too, as I'm considering buying this setup.  Looks like there are multiple from Zeroing, Cruzbike, and other labels.  I didn't consider a lack of self extracting bolt....hmmmm

I have 24mm 7075 alloy axle spindles on all my bikes. I haven't had any issues...yet. The weight savings are very noticeable. All I do is hill climb and go out of saddle quite often. Though I weigh between 68-70kg. I figure at my size, I can get away with a lot of weight weenie hacks that thicc cyclists wouldn't be able to pull off.
