Crankset loading BB with preload backed out
(1/1)
Ludo:
Hi,
I am not sure if I am explaining correctly but with the preload ring fully backed out, when I tighten to spec, I overload the bearing and the crankset doesn’t rotate freely. Is there any way around that? Sanding down the preload ring?

Wet Noodle:
You might want to add which crank and which type of bb it is.
If there is enough material, it can be done. Alternatives: Face the bb shell down a few 1/10 (again, only if there is enough material) or just leave the preload ring out and try a wave washer instead.
Ludo:
Zrace hardrock crankset with BB92. Will look at sanding the preload ring or took it out as you suggested to see exactly how much play I need to take out…
Thanks for the advice
kubackje:
I had this problem with senicx and t47. Had to remove the preload ring and just put spacers.
Ludo:
I ended up sanding down the lip on the adjuster to increase a little the clearance and it did the trick! I think I probably had to remove 1/12 to 1/16th of an inch
