Hongfu vs lightcarbon
« on: November 11, 2024, 11:48:36 PM »
Hi,

Almost ready to get a frame. I have narrowed down to 2 brands, lightcarbon and hongfu

Wanted to know the opinion of the group which is more reliable in terms of build quality and strength.

Same man :)
It would be great to hear from people who had the chance to try both :)
Lightcarbon LCFS918 has limited options with rear shock (165x40) and they recommend 51mm offset forks.
And those aren't made anymore, at least better models like Sid Ultimate..44mm is standard now
Not sure what offset Hongfu FM138 has, does it even matter if I use 44? (Wating for their email response)
I currently have Sid Select+ 100mm, 44mm offset with raceday charger.  But wont fit to LCFS918 sadly because I have steerer cut a bit too short xD
I am leaning a bit more towards FM138 for now, but epic clone is also an option...  ;D
Lightcarbon has been pretty professional in emails and their site provides really good information.
That's big plus to me.

The offeset thing is over blown. Use whatever you have. I guarantee you won't even notice the difference.

I've not owned a Hongfu MTB, but did own a road frame from them, I currently own a Lightcarbon MTB.
I think they are about the same in terms of quality.

I have 7500 miles on my LightCarbon LCFS 917.  It's been rock solid other than the insert on the back brake boss on the rear broke and I wore out the remaining threads.  Replaced it with the 919 rear triangle which only difference was it's now UDH so it's a bonus.

i am 6 frames into light carbon personally.  basically one of each FS frame and a gravel bike.  plus a few bikes for other people.  Also have about 6 wheel sets with their rims.  i have had a few issues and one warranty but i have always been treated well by LC.  whether it be replacement parts sent out or frames replaced with minimal faffing around.  i like their pricing and dealing with them is very easy.  if their frames meet your needs i would highly recommend them.

i just with they would update the DH frame to something like Carbonda's.

Hong Fu has been around for ages and has always had a positive reputation. I don't seem to hear from them as much anymore but that could be a me thing. LC has also been around for a while as well. LC seems more current with their offerings than Hong Fu.
