The free hub noise is a bit louder and cruder than I’d like. It also has a bit of an oscillation, I suspect from the free hub not being entirely concentric. Overall minor details

Recently I heard a genuine DT 180 hubs and it had similar oscillating noise. Since then I've slept my nights peacefully.

​New Wheel Day! I wanted to share my first impressions of my new wheelset from Tagoola. This is my second set from them, and this time I went for their XPLR gravel wheelset.

​The Specs & First Impressions
This is exactly what I was looking for for my gravel bike: an aero profile at 50mm deep with some serious width. They measure 41mm externally and a whopping 32mm internally, making them perfect for wider tires. The wheels look fantastic, and on a quick check, the spoke tension feels nice and even.

​They came neatly pre-taped and included tubeless valves. The actual weight on my scale is 1466 grams (including tape), which is within an acceptable margin of the advertised 1400 grams.

Like mentioned before, my hubs weren't greased, so don't forget to put in a little grease before the first ride.

​Mounting & Tires
I mounted a set of Schwalbe G-One RS Pro tires in 40mm. The installation was a breeze; the tire went on without much trouble and seated immediately with a standard floor pump.

​A quick heads-up for everyone: on these wide 32mm internal rims, the 40mm tire actually measures out to 43mm! It's a tight fit in my Argon 18 Krypton Pro, but it just clears. So definitely check your own frame clearance if you're planning a similar setup.

​Shipping & Service
Just like last time, shipping was super fast and, importantly, there were no unexpected import duties or taxes. A huge plus.
​Unfortunately, there was a downside that I also experienced with my previous order: the wheels were shipped with the wrong freehub body. This is a real shame, as it's the second time in a row this has happened. Now I have to wait for the correct part to arrive before I can actually ride them.

​Preliminary Score:
​Wheels (Quality/Looks): 9/10 - They look great, specs are perfect.
​Shipping: 10/10 - Fast and no extra fees.
​Price: 9/10 - Great value for money.
​Service: 7/10 - Points deducted for the recurring freehub issue.

​Conclusion
All in all, I'm very impressed with the wheels themselves, but the simple mistake with the freehub is a real disappointment. Once the correct body arrives and I've put the first few hundred KMs on them, I'll be sure to post an update with a ride report!

Now that you mention it, even though I've had the wheels at home for a few months, I haven't checked to see if the freehub on the wheels is the one I requested.
The frame finally arrived last week, and it's time to start assembling it... I hope I don't have any nasty surprises with the freehub!

Here is my first part of the review of my Tagoola wheelset.

1) This is the second wheelset I have ordered from them. For information , I also ordered from XM carbon speed, Zen and Wheelsfar (for me and for friends) and my preference goes for Tagoola.
Why ? Because the communication with Matter is always on top, prices and quality are good and above all it seems that are developing some new products (hubs, carbon spokes,...). They also give more importance than other brands to the reliability and solidity of the products.

2) The wheelset arrived in a strong package and included tubeless valve and the datasheet. It is so nice to have the spoke tension and some data. The rim tape was already installed.

They used to attached a "manual" data sheet but They will use the Spokecalc software in the future in order to synthesize all the information (included rim, hub...) (sample in picture). It might not be useful for everybody but It shows that They want to be a pro seller. None of the brand I know do this.

3) All my previous wheelset were built with DT 240 exp hub. But this time I wanted to test something new and I chose their new ultra light hub (Tactic TR01 like) with a 48 T Ratchet system (50 mm depth, brass nipples and Sapim CX-ray). The freehub sound is so gorgeous. I will only be able to ride them in two weeks and I will made the review next after.

The max rider weight is 120-130 kg (more than I need ^^) and front weight is 656 g and rear 731 g. So 1387 g in totale with brass nipples.

The quality of the rim is very nice (no defect, no sharpe angle,...) and I choose to have their new logo on it. I find it modern and I like it very much. Their rim tape looks exactly the same as on Giant wheels. It looks strong. Each rim has a serial number and a "QC" sticker. I also asked to have a drain hole. They don't do this automatic, so be careful.

So far so good and I will confirm (or not 😁) the overall good impression later.

We will arrange to send you a replacement freehub and a pair of inner tubes. It will arrive in about 7 days.

Thanks for the detailed review! I'm a big fan of how they lightened the freehub by machining out material from the nondrive direction of the splines. Very clever.

Honestly, I prefer with holes. It is easier to do the maintenance if you need to replace a spoke.

The only davantage I see is for tubeless because you don't need to install rim tape. Nowadays, it is very easy to install a rim tape so this advantage is not very interesting.

We will use Spokecalc to prepare custom products for forum customers in the future (providing product details and complete tension data). This service is not currently available for AliExpress's basic products (WAVE\ALL ROAD).

Honestly, I prefer with holes. It is easier to do the maintenance if you need to replace a spoke.

The only davantage I see is for tubeless because you don't need to install rim tape. Nowadays, it is very easy to install a rim tape so this advantage is not very interesting.

For me, who has been riding tubeless for several years, a rim without nipple holes would be a must.
I would still have the spoke maintenance done by a mechanic, so it wouldn't change anything for me.

I'm having a lot of trouble getting even the first sidewall of the tire up...I've never had this much trouble in the last 8 years.

1: The freehub says XDR, so theoretically it should be fine... but the cassette doesn't reach all the way to the bottom of the freehub (it stays about 8mm away).

2: I usually use the levers to insert the last 20cm of the tire... in this case, however, I can't even get up the first sidewall of the tire...very strange!
