TT-X42 Full Bike with Carbon and Wheeltop
« on: November 22, 2024, 09:31:31 AM »
Hi all! Looking for reviews or insights on this full complete bike from TanTan.

Looks pretty solid value. I can add small mods/upgrades over time. I am trying to figure out the max tire clearance as the post and sellers tell me its 28c and hear mixed feedback. However, I would like to fit 30c minimum but ideally even 32c as that's what I am used to.

Also can someone share what to expect in terms of duties/taxes they ended up paying? I am in Canada.

I bought one of these.

Maximum clearance is 30c, 32c is dependant on wheel and tyre combination.

I paid $1800 delivered to Australia.

If I had my time again I would have just built up a bike from scratch. If you start replacing parts it will end up costing a lot more.

The wheels are really heavy, 1900 grams. (I got the carbon wheels)

I have replaced the following: Crankset, axles, saddle, tyres. New wheels will be the next purchase which will take the bike to around 7kg.

Thanks for the response. Any feedback on ride and build quality? Do you have any pics?

I saw this video recently on the X43 which seems concerning for longevity and don't know if they have any warranty support. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/duqORM2P7Iw

I am not that mechanically inclined and the wheeltop groupset is ~700+ CAD for me alone so everything together seemed attractive. Can explore doing a build from scratch.

Here you go. I don't have much to compare the ride to besides an old Avanti Rim brake bike. My mate who has a Scott Foil Disc said it felt similar.

It's a good starter bike, I could afford to lose 10kg so the weight really isn't that bad. I did have issues with creaking however the rear axles were too tight, sorted now

Hello everyone,
are there any more buyers here in the forum who can share their experiences?
I am interested in the bike as a cost-effective alternative and am thinking about placing an order.
Some good photos in daylight would also be nice.
What weaknesses have you identified? I would be happy to receive some more information...

You're probably better off buying the Kocevlo frame from AliExpress and building yourself, it will be a similar price but you'll be able to choose the parts along the way.

BikeVibes just recently released their 6 month review video, here is the link in case you missed it.

I am the one who posted above. I've probably put another 1000km on since then.

It's fine for an entry level bike, it I had my time again I'd build up one of the highly regarded frames here and spend a bit more money.

Wheels are heavy, handlebar is heavy, frame is heavy. But if you're a heavy lad it's fine.

Only problem has been axles as I mentioned above. I snapped the fork when I had a tumble but it was easy getting a new one shipped.

If you're advanced, this isn't the bike for you. I'm still on the road to lose weight, but this bike will be relegated to trainer duties next season.

Yep

I just bought a Twitter C6. It's not terrible, but there's enough on it I want to change that I wish I had gone penny pinch custom. IMO it's worth either finding something used that needs minimal changes, or going penny pincher custom. You should be able to build something for like $1500 which is probably what you will spend getting an all-in-one bike sorted out. I'm going to sell the Twitter and convert a gravel build I have to drop bars.

Hello.
I'm also thinking about buying this bike.
HBuying the Kocevlo frame and Wheeltop shifter costs almost the same as the TT-X42 with carbon wheels and shipping to Europe, €1250.
Maybe there's something I'm missing.

Regards

I see it like you do. From my perspective, the package is unbeatable in terms of price. I can't understand how the package can be offered so cheaply. I'm considering whether to buy the deal or not. What bothers me the most is the 42 handlebar. Due to the fully integrated cockpit, a replacement is probably not so easy, which is why it puts me off a bit. Actually, I don't need the bike, but the Wheeltop groupset would really tempt me. I’m watching the deals (spring, summer, back to school, etc.), maybe the price can even be pushed down to 1100€ (including shipping to Germany). If I buy it, I will report back...

I would not let the handlebar put you off... You will probably go a lot narrower, so the hoses will be long enough.  A new handlebar is about 60EUR.

I was a little ambitious - it's possible if you go with L-Twoo ER9 instead. Add another $150 USD or so for the Wheeltop groupset - maybe you could fit it within budget if you managed to time the coupons perfectly. Here's a similar build from individual parts (though the wheels and crank are probably a bit better)
