Great looks, 32 mm max, relaxed geometry (590 stack, 378 reach in L), UDH, FSA 55R headset - small downside is BB86 bottom bracket


Also, what's the general feeling with the brand?

I've been in touch with them. Problem for me and my clients has been the price. When you add all the bits and bytes it goes above 1k

They produce good quality stuff though

Yes it's not cheap, but from the quotes I got the closest competitor looks to be the Carbonda 1136 that's even more expensive

It's more or less at the same price.

At that amount I sell western bikes Brand sells and riding a Merida Scultura 5000 with 105 di2 and Elite Carbon wheels for 2.4K/2.5 sells way more than a non-brand china build with di2 and carbon wheels for the same price or more.

There is a seller here in the forum pietro or similar who was going to create an endurance frame but price seemed to be even higher.

If you want my two cents, and what I build most, get a velobuild 066 or a Tantan FM202/og-evkin etc. Still endurance, nice a bit more traditional design but trustworthy.

I was dared by a client to build the most budget friendly carbon 10/11speed hydraulic disc brake xD. I'm gonna try to do it under 1K

quality wise , hong fu is very reliable.
the have a little higher price tags and usually do not like to mess with single buys..

Bb86 is better than t47 if done right, does your car use threaded or pressfit bearings?

Ordered already all the parts (I think). I'll disclose everything in a post as soon as I receive and analyse the quality of the different parts. But I can say already that if everything goes well I managed to be under 1k (pedals not included but could)

I agree that all road is actually a bit tricky with this tyre width, whatever all road actually means, because it is what? Sth in the middle of road and gravel?

This looks like a solid endurance frame. No fancy design, no quirks etc.

Bottom bracket is neither good nor bad. As long as it's round all over, it's all the same - though I also have a preference for t47. But thst doesn't make a frame good nor bad.

As regards carbon t800 t1000 or whatever, again, a well designed and constructed frame is better than any hype around that. This is not a frame for the tour de France. It's a frame for normal people.

If it wasn't for the price, I'd have sold already 10 of these this year.

They sent me the drawing of the frame where they have a 35 mm tire and the clearance on each side is slightly over 5 mm, both on the lower and upper rear triangle.
No drawing of the fork though.

Sorry to post in this topic after months of silence.

I am about to purchase a FM238 frame. In 2018 I already bought a Hongfu Frame (FM008, rim brake) and was quite satisfied with the quality. But it turned out that the geometry of the frame was way too extreme for me, the classification as an endurance frame was somehow misleading (i need more stack and less reach basically) and on top it only accomodated 25mm tires max.

tl;dr: i think the FM238 could be a perfect fit

I am just unsure about the headset. Does the mentioning of the FSA No55R1 in the spec sheet mean that i can combine every integrated handlebar or stem that is compatible with FSA SMR/ACR with the frame? I already posed the question to my HongFu contact, but it was obvious that he was overwhelmed by the question, so I thought you guys could help me out.

So this is a question that is hard to answer with certainty. In theory, yes. In practice, you need to ensure your headset is compatible with your stem. Headsets are just as bad as bottom brackets, and FSA has at least three versions of its headset compression ring.

Furthermore, since FSA offers various combinations of upper and lower bearings to OEMs, if your bike features a molded crown race, you should verify the lower headset bearing intended to fit there.

The good news is that the bearing seat depth is standard to the reference designs for Token and Deda, so if the frame is FSA compatible, it should also be compatible with those brands' headsets and ICR systems too.

No I haven't. I ended up ordering a VB-066 in Size S (which I got very cheap, ~€380) last year, but haven't build it up to this date. Now I realized that the VB066 might be too long for me. The HongFu238 on the other hand turns out to have an exceptional high STR in Size XS, which is extremely rare (especially having a long seat tube while having a super short top tube, which is exactly what I need).

So I am considering selling the VB066 in S and ordering the Hongfu238 in XS. When that's done I'll certainly update this thread.

Honestly, i wasted several weeks of my life just comparing bike geometries on bikeinsight and geometrygeeks and couldn't ride a single mile last year. Being a longleg shortking is really annoying.
