Hi all,
I'm new to chinertown and ordered my LCR018-D today
Many new things for me here: First chinese carbon, first bike build, first road bike.
Coming from downhill MTB, got my first gravel last year, but did enjoy riding fast on the road much more then riding on gravel, so here we are
Have gone with a Deep Ocean Blue color (inspired by lb7894546, looked sick) with Gittering Gold decals.
Payed 1.099$ ins total (~940€), including their basic BB and shipping to germany.
For the build I'm not sure yet. Either Elitewheels ENT 2.0 + Ultegra Di2 or Elitewheels Edge + 105 Di2 (both with Magene P515 powermeter).
Both combinations costs roughly the same, going with Edge + 105 should be slightly lighter. What would you go for?
Delivery time is expected mid march (size 50), will keep you guys updated how it's going.
Nice! Light Carbon really do a great job with the deep ocean paint job, I've had several compliments on group rides of how great the paint job turned out, I think you will be quite happy.
Can't say I have experience with either set of these elite wheels, so will let other's comment on if there is a noticeable difference between the two options you list. But if it were me, would probably take advantage of the increased tire clearance of the 018D frame and go for wheelsets with wider internal width, seems both of those wheelsets are still on the 21 mm internal, designed for 25, maybe 28 mm tires (though of course so long as the wheelset is hooked, you can likely put bigger tires on there). I'm all about comfort and rocking 30-32 mm tires from here out and never looking back, may even go to 35 mm tires if they start making some fast rolling tires at that width, and so was really interested in wheelsets with 23-25 mm internal widths. But if you are set on choosing between these wheelsets, you are more likely to notice a difference in the lighter weight wheels as that lighter rotational mass will be easier to spin up. Conversely though, the heavier wheels may act more like a flywheel and hold their speed once you actually get them going, so if just doing a lot of flats at speed, the lighter wheelset may not be as noticeable.
As for groupset, as others mentioned, shifting will be pretty similar. Yes the front shifting will be a bit faster with ultegra and maybe the hyperglide + makes shifting under load a bit smoother for ultegra, but this is likely not super noticeable unless you ride both back to back. What I will say is I went with ultegra and have really enjoyed the bonus buttons on ultegra for controlling my bike computer and swiping through cycling data without having to take my hands off the hoods. That said, if you went 105, you could program one of the shifters to have the front deraileur up and down shift controlled by the same button (since in theory you don't need to have one for up and one for down, just a single button to say switch to whatever front ring isn't being used), and then use the other button to control the bike computer. A bit less convenient but manageable if you want that functionality on 105.
