It fine-tunes the fit between the upper headset bearing, dust cap/top cap, and steerer tube.  Without it, when you preload the bearing there can be rubbing and your steering will be very stiff.

Well yes, I have seen people mention it, but I haven't seen an exact answer for where it actually goes.

So do I place the upper headset bearing, then the spacer? Or does it go after the spacer that routes the brake hoses?

So long as the bearings are stainless steel and the correct size, it doesn’t matter where they come from.
Headset bearings never spin, they only go back and forth so stopping rust is the key to longevity.

I live in a high desert part of Utah in the US at 7000' and often less than 20% humidity.  I'm not an expert but never hear about headset issues here, or even when I lived in hot / humid North Carolina for that matter.  I know it's tough to change out an integrated headset, but I plan to use the standard LC steel headset on my build. Since it seems I might be in the minority with this choice, I'd like to ask does anyone support this decision to use the standard headset for such high desert environments?

If you’re not likely to have wet rides there is little point in swapping the standard bearings.

My Seatpost doesn‘t slip but it has horizontal play. Very annoying noises with every Pedal stroke. It May be caused by the wedge or it‘s just too big tolerances. Small layers of Tesa Tape didn‘t help. I‘ll try again with other Tape.

Just document the issue and contact LC. I got a replacement. In the meantime I got the old one to sit right with a layer of thick plastic. The PU-bag my OEM-packed SRAM Force came in.

I'm wondering if anyone could advise me on a frame size and handlebar combo. I am really, really struggling to decide what size to get.
I am 188cm/6ft2in.
90kg but hoping to drop a few KGs with cycling!
Not super flexible, I get some shoulder pain over time with my current bike
Wanting an all day comfort frame.
My current bike is a sort of off brand from a UK based retailer called a Hoy Alto Ipravi .001
I put it in a geo comparison site vs the XL/580 LCR but maybe you guys can give some more insight. I did have a bike fit on my current bike and it seems OK for me but it's been my only road bike.

I am leaning towards the 58cm frame, 420/110 bar/stem.

You have plenty of options with offset yes/no and stem length to influence the length, so ask yourself whether you want to have the endurance character of the higher stack of the racier smaller stack.

Not too sure why you’re deliberating on this if you’ve had a bike fit. If it was recent, just ask the fitter what size to go for.

Remember to add 8mm of stack for the bars and another 8mm for the mandatory headset bearing cap.

Sadly it was quite some years ago, I did contact them but they mainly just suggested a large Giant Defy frame, I don't think they are a fan of Chinese brands (it's a bike shop). I would go elsewhere near time. I definitely want more of an endurance fit!

The 58 looks like a very close match to what you already have. Do you have spacers under your stem ? What’s the stem length and bar reach .
