Gloss clear over carbon.

Over the years I’ve stripped 14 frames down to bare carbon and re clear coated them.
It’s always been my thing, so it was the only choice I was interested in.
Plus it’s lighter and less expensive.

I personally hate logos, or any writing on my frames so it’s as bare as they come.

Going a bit off-topic here, but would you mind commenting on the clear-coat process after sanding it down? Do you need a primer? What clear coat did you use (1k,2k) How durable is the clear coat?

Removing the paint takes a long long time to do it properly, and no primer is needed. Just clean, clean and clean again.

I’ve found spray max 2k clear coat is absolutely the best stuff to use, as it’s a high quality product and allowed for wet sanding after initial application, and polishing when you inevitably get some scratches.

I’ve a few frames that are 7-8 years old and they still look new after a quick machine polish.

Spray max is also UV stable and protects the carbon.

It’s essential to wear a full respirator and not just a mask as 2k contains cyanide and other extremely toxic compounds you don’t want to breath in.

I went with a 52 and 380-110 bars.
It’ll have XPLR Force mech and cassette with force crank and 48t or 50 Garbaruk chainring.

It’ll be build within a day of the frame arriving, but that’s probably 6 weeks from now.
Happy to take pics, weights or whatever when it’s done.

I’ve got some thoughts on modifying the storage door, but I need to see it in person before I know the mods will work.
I want the aero cages to sit flush with the downtube, but I think in standard form there will be a gap which will look weird.

Yes - you have to be careful spraying this stuff as it contains isocyanate. For a pro who sprays this stuff regularly, they will use a air-fed mask, but as a regular DIY guy, I use a Gerson A1 P2 2K face mask, and spray with garage doors wide open. Outside would be even better (but maybe not in December!). I cannot stress enough, that if you use 2K spray, you need a good mask. You will need your lungs in good shape to cycle!

2K paint is much tougher than reqular stuff and the finish is better. I have used ordinary paints on aluminium frames, and its okay, but chips easily.

Christmas came early, my size 50 frame arrived yesterday. Happy with the quality and looks sharp. Seems to have sustained damage and speaking with Chloe now. I am leaning to shipping damage as the mark is obvious. Hearing LC has good QC, I don't think they would have shipped it, looking like that. No doubt they will help me out, as Chloe already answered my first email sent last night.

I will be sure to update. I imagine it will take a few days based on time differences. I hope LC handles this well and expect good service, based on what I have seen/read. I will be sure to update as it goes, as after-sales support is a big concern that can make or break a brand. Based on Chloe already responding to my first email, I don't expect there to be issues.

What a pleasant surprise. 😊. 710€ in total, shipped to EU. I took the risk and paid via PayPal friends, so the provision was only 4€.

Haha, I was in the same boat. I was told it would ship soon and they would update me. Then it arrived yesterday. Pleasant surprise for sure! I almost paid F&F but now seeing the damage on mine, glad I paid the extra fee. Nice to have the peace of mind if needed. Still with the fee, very pleased with the value of everything.
