Looking For Handlebar Similar to Black Inc Aero Barstem
« on: June 25, 2025, 12:24:40 PM »
As the title says I have been searching for a little bit but I have not found something similar in terms of shape:

What I am looking for is a -6 degree bar and 38cm hoods with 410cm drops. The majority of integrated bars that I have seen have been -10 degrees for a more aero position, also most only have a 2cm difference between hoods and drops I am hoping to have a little more flare.

Cheers,
Dragos

They look indeed interesting. Do you have those handlebars? How were they to mount? How do the feel while riding?
Slow on the climb. And everywhere else.

The above bars have a pretty awful mounting design. Normally you tighten the top cap to compress the steering assembly and apply preload to the bearings, then you tighten the stem bolts to clamp the stem to the steerer tube. The Ultra bar has a wedge stem clamp like modern seatposts, which doesn't really have any practical advantages, but eh fair enough if you want to get rid of the bolts for aesthetics. The problem with the implementation here is that the top cap covers the wedge bolt, meaning that it's impossible to tighten it after screwing on the top cap. So it's impossible to use the top cap to apply preload to the bearings and assembly, because you can then no longer tighten the stem clamp. You could use your hands or a weight to provide compression to the system before tightening the clamp, but it's just a bodge solution for a worse result. And also a wedge like this will provide more uneven clamping force on a safety risk part (steerer) than a normal compression clamp.

Yet another product from china designed by an engineer who probably doesn't ride a bike and definitely doesn't work on them.

The original ultra bar doesn't have this problem as the wedge bolts are on the outside, but it's significantly more expensive, and we all know how much chinertown likes that. https://aliexpress.com/item/1005003968726979.html

Or, you could compress the system with the top cap rotated 90° so you can reach the clamping bolt, then loosen the top cap, rotate again to align with stem and have a well compressed and clean headset ;)

the top cap isn't designed to take force from a bolt that way, you risk damaging it. Instead it would be better to use a conventional round top cap to apply preload, clamp the steerer and then use the provided top cap. Still wouldn't want to go near a a wedge clamped steerer.

you can also just get the actual Black Inc rip-off bar https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005009189458818.html

You are misunderstanding what I wrote. No need to use the top cap to hold the assembly. You would be using it just as you would with other handlebars to just pre-load the system. The stem bolt will hold it afterwards.

Elite / Evolve Kreuza: https://www.evolvebicycles.com/product/kreuza-apex-one-piece-handlebar/

It's almost identical but around 75g lighter. Thinking about replacing my Black Inc with this one. Dislike the Kreuza branding though.

I saw that in a Eurobike video it looks pretty good, comes with a lot of accessories, and you also get some deacaps for a bike if its not a standard FSA.
