Wuzei crankset and pass quest chainring - what gives?

I've ordered a load of parts for a build for a friend and he has received them, but can't get the 8
-bolt chainring and crank arm to go together. What's the issue, user error or manufacturing intolerance? One of the 8 'kinks' is shallower, which matches up on both.

i had a similar issue with my passquest oval chainring 8-bolt and my driveline zelle cranks.

had to file the chainring interface/kinks a bit to fit the crank interface
