Anyone knows if it is necessary to fit this black ring and if so, where? The headset seems to be fine without it. I have no idea where it should even be as it doesnt sit "flush" anywhere.

I didn't use it, I think it's not necessary

I didn't install it either; it works fine for me without it. However, with the VB TT023, it does need to be used.

Thanks for your answers guys. Chris sent me this installation guide (not sure if it is already posted here) which doesn't include the crown race ring
