Author Topic: Do you use third party olives and barbs for BH90 or stick with Shimano?  (Read 4557 times)

Does anyone use non-shimano olives and barbs? I had a bad experience with ZTTO ones while replacing a barstem and went back to only using shimano but I'm curious if others have ones they like.

I'm pretty sure the ZTTO olive I used crushed the barb, causing excess pressure inside the shifter. When I took it to a shop they told me the bladder inside the shifter was broken. I felt extremely lame for cheaping out on parts and then ending up having to replace a $200 Di2 shifter.

I use any/all of them provided they are the right size/shape. I'm more picky about the barb and ensuring the end is perfectly flat.

So far, I've never had any brake fluid leak from any of them.

However, unless you like to recrimp your brake lines regularly, I would suggest just buying the legit shimano ones if you are concerned. It is such a small cost difference.

I've used the ztto branded barbs and needles without any issues using 105 di2. I've also used them on sensah empire hrd without issue. No leak or loss of pressure.
I did try the ZTTO hydraulic cable, but that caused to leak, and was terrible. Use the original BH-90

I'm using ztto olive and barbs and have no issues after 10,000 KMs. If your bladder is damaged, I can't see how it can be caused by the olive or barb.

I used Shimano everything when it came to the brake line. It's the brakes, I want peace of mind that I can stop when I need to.

No problem with Ztto olives and barbs too.

I also used off brand barbs and olives with succes on 105 mechanical. I don’t notice any difference in breaking control and the cable has been good for over 2 years now.

Now knowing how infrequent I interchange cables, I think I would have opted for original Shimano instead. But yeah, I now have a small stock of off brands.
