"Newbie" needs help with frame and wheelset selection
« on: August 11, 2025, 03:18:28 PM »
Hey,
After reading for a couple of weeks in this forum, trying to make up my mind about which frame manufacturer and wheelset to pick, I've decided to reach out to the community to get some advice.
I'm not inexperienced concerning building up a bike but quite unexperienced concerning Chinese carbon.
Im looking for actually two frames, one for my kid (approx 165cm /5,5) and one for me.
Specifically im looking for a relaxed gravel for my kid and an all road for myself.
Right now im riding a genesis Croix de fer size 56 with a ultegra group, a custom build steel gravel (Reynolds 953 and dedaccia zero uno  with force / eagle mullet build and a custom gravel in Reynolds 725 GRX build.
It's time for me to try out some carbon...
From the things I read so far I'll take that either xiamen carbon speed or light carbon are both quite good manufactures.
I would either go for the 018 all road and the 071 gravel from light carbon or something equivalent from xm carbon speed (even though they doesn't seem to have a real all road...)
Are the companies comparable concerning overall quality or would you recommend other companies?
In order to save myself time and to deal with several companies I would rather order everything from one company including the two wheelsets. (both 700c,     )

I'm looking for good quality control and reliable companies, I don't mind to spend a tad more and get something decent.
taking into account that I will probably spend more for the groupsets than for the frame and wheelset...

Thanks,

demeaux

I bought a Carbonda 505SL as an all road, I've been out on it 3 times and like it. I'm hoping to get it out on some off road stuff soon. But so far so good. It's only got capacity for 50/34 and it doesn't have mudguard mounts.
