Shave weight from Shimano 105 50/34 170mm crankset.

What do you guys recommend as best and most reliable way (parts)?
I wonder how much weight saving could be had here by replacing the rings and cranks with something else without sacrifice in reliability and safety.

There are multiple threads about different cranksets and chainrings. Just look it up and count the grams and you'll know how much you will save.

OEM shimano 105 is pretty heavy. This is my 170mm 105 with 50/34 and all mounting bolts (749 grams)

If you go for any of the popular carbon cranks you can easily save 200 grams or more. I think you’ll mostly get savings from cranks… stock shimano chainrings are pretty good and a lot of people prefer them for the best FD shifting.

I recently checked the 7100 versus the 8100 crankset.
From aliexpress and bike shops that sell single parts it turned out that the weight difference for the 12sp crank is solely originating from the large chainring.

I don't know if this can be transferred to 11sp.. but.. for the 12sp the solution for me was Ryet chainrings.
Basically they are double in price compared to 105 chain rings , but I anyway wanted to replace three 52/36T and the shape of the Ryet ones just hit me

I should have added that currently I have the stock 105 chainrings 50/34 BUT I have the Magene 505 power meter cranks on there. I am thinking of selling the PM cranks and get Assioma pedals so that I can take that with me when I travel.
So to sum it up:
- Shimano 105 50/34 rings
- Magene PES505 170mm cranks
- Ultegra pedals

Absolutely fine!
 Of course long term is missing, but after 700km the teeth are still allmost.black, which is very comparable to how my ultegra 12sp chainrings behaved last year.

If you can accept the price, function and design are worth it.
+ you only need to buy the "beauty caps" once and after that in principle you can mount any chain ring that fits the hole positions
