Hey,

just found the AcrRayo powermeters on AliExpress — there are some good deals from the 318Bike Store right now. I couldn’t find many reviews about them on the forum or elsewhere. Has anyone got more info or maybe ordered/tested them already?

Edit: OK, fuck it — I just pulled the trigger and decided to build a new bike. First part ordered!
Got the ZRACE UNCHAINED Power Meter + Crankset 165mm (Link 2) for 220 CHF (~275 USD). That’s half the price of the Magene TEO P515 and “only” about 60 g heavier.
I really hope I didn’t miss anything and won’t regret this decision — definitely a 100% impulse buy.

Chinese components are so crazy. I swear that's the original Magene P505 stand-alone power meter before Magene released their own P505/515 proprietary PM interface + crankset. Though the ArcRayo crankset changed the magnetic charging port from the 2 prong / 2 magnets on the original Magene, to the ArcRayo 1 port /1 circular magnet charging cable.

The 2 prong charging cable works with both Magene power meters and Wheeltop electronic groupsets. The Arco 1 prong cable (appears) to be compatible with the V1 LTwoo eR9/X/GR groupsets (V3 eR9/X V2 eGR removed magnetic charging).

Is the ArcRayo PM just a backwards engineered Magene PM or is it Magene rebadging their old design for ZRace?

I wonder if all these bike manufacturers are on good terms or if it's a dog-eat-dog scenario where no one's IP is safe?

Call me a fanboy but I wouldn't trust a powermeter if it was not tested by GPLama or DCrainmaker

A spider is the simplest way to make a bike power meter. Those charging ports are standard parts they can just get from a supplier.

Magene kept selling that same spider-only PM, I think until about the time they launched the 515. It's a nice design because it can take so many different chainrings. IIRC, the Magene version was quite a bit more expensive than the 505, but this looks like a pretty good deal.

Edit: Looks like this one only takes 4 and 5 bolth 110BCD chainrings. IIRC, the Magene one had even more compatibility?

Yes they had 104 bcd one, that’s the one Jon has and it has been discontinued. Only cadeyx makes that bcd now.

At one point the 318Bike Store was selling the Magene PM spider on clearance paired with the ZRace RX cranksets for around $200-225 USD (during coupon sales). It's nice because you can use multiple bolt pattern chainrings on the spider and pair it with whatever 3 bolt crankset. With the Magene P505/515 crankset, you're pretty much stuck with that.

I did ordered the Xcadey Ventus crankset + PM. When I get it I'll confirm if I can use the Xcadey Ventus PM on other 3 bolt cranksets and see if the Ventus crank will accept other 3 bolt PMs. It has a proprietary 5 bolt setup, but appears to use the same pattern as 3 bolt cranks.

Cheers for the reply. I wasn’t aware that there was a connection between those two brands. They obviously look very similar, but I didn’t know much more about it.

I have the Magene P505 spider on another bike. Once I have this one, I can compare them and check the chainring and crank compatibility.
It’ll probably take me a while to finish the build, so I won’t be able to test the power meter’s accuracy against my smart trainer or anything just yet.

Will be interesting to see if this is competitive. Wonder what the minimum chain ring size would be, cheap option for gravel bike.

Yeah I'd be very surprised if there's anything to do with Magene - totally different case, charger, spider.
