Aero clip‑on extensions on integrated bars – options?

Hi all,

We all chase the aero gains, and integrated cockpits look great, but rider position is still the biggest factor. I’m looking for aero handlebars that can accept clip‑on extensions and have found two options so far:

- Elves Orome AeroEXT – arm‑rest clip‑on 
- Scott Syncros Creston IC SL – TT/tri clip‑on 

My questions

1. Is adding clip‑on extensions to an integrated cockpit a sensible approach, or is the danger of damaging it too high?
2. Is there any “universal” solution, or do you need a model‑specific clip‑on for each integrated bar shape?
3. What concrete alternatives have you used? e.g., specific brands, or a non‑integrated cockpit.

Cant really answer question 1 and 2. But I have found 2 more alternatives:

- Canyon GEAR GROOVE Aero Extension for the integrated Cockpit that comes with the Canyon Aeroad

I have also thought about using such a handlebar on my next bike, since I plan on participating more triathlons. But have no decision yet

Search AliExpress for "aero bar extensions" and look for the ones that have oval clamps. I cannot post the link that will direct you to the specific bars as it says the page cannot be found. Look for the clamp to be 4 piece that allows adjustment in 2 dimensions to grip the aero integrated bars.

I would be worried about compatibility. You would 100% want to have model specific clip on bars incorrect clamps/clamping force would kill most carbon bars. You could look at older trek madone models that let you add on speed concept style extensions, canyon groove (super expensive and not available in the US).

It's a aero solution with separeted stem and handlebars.. but the handlebars came with 2 pieces of plastic that you can remove (that will make the center part of the handlebar that is round, a little bit longer, and then mount tradicional aerobar with rounded clips.

I would be careful with "universal" solutions. Would they fit your bars and if so, are your bars designed to take that kind of stress? I have an old set of Syntace clip ons that are designed for round bars, and even with Al handlebars I found a set with specific language that the manufacturer allowed for clip-on aero bars to be installed. Could I have gotten away with any old handlebars? Maybe, maybe not.

I'm looking to build a bike for light touring and I consider aero bars a must. I'm a bit of a weight weenie, but the extra weight is 100% worth it. I've also been debating if I should just go for round handlebars so I can use my old Syntace clip ons or if I should get something like the SP-Cycle cockpit. Right now I'm leaning towards round bars since the bike I'm using would be set up with aero bars 90% of the time. If I only had one bike and wanted to switch back and forth, I would probably lean more towards the SP-Cycle solution.

I will definitely be following this thread, though. I'm interested to see if there's something out there that I've been missing.

I am testing the https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005007431572824.html Kocevlo for now. Mounting works so far, there is no specific torque setting, one has to find a good spot between firmness and risk of bar breaking. I am also waiting on Riser elements to get it a tid higher for now.

I have the SP-cycle HB-068. It looks like the canyon aero clip-on. It is ok but expensive.

Next time, I might try the Balugoe stem or handlebar.

The SP-Cycle bar is pretty stupid. It makes little sense to have a gravel-style bar with a lot of flare for TT or triathlon. The style of aggressive aerobar extensions doesn't make sense for long gravel rides or the like either. I have no idea what they are going for with this thing.

German Lamba Tuning make a carbon bar they claim is safe to clamp tt bars to.

Given the increasing demand I reckon more options will follow down the line. The R8RS is neat and makes it tempting to get the Avenger frameset.

Really can't wait for some decent options - there is a severe lack of nice, integrated bars with quick and easy bolt on, integrated extensions available.
Something like the Black inc bar but at a price that is perhaps less than that of a full frameset would be perfect! :-)

Thanks for mentioning Lambda; I've just read their site and aero blog stuff about the topic. Lambda's "TWINFORCE" frame is obvious well-known in this forum , but they have their own carbon bar(s) instead of HBR17, which are clip-on-ready (some sizes) for about EUR 300 incl. shipping & tax. But then would have to switch out full stem/cockpit.
