gravel wheel recomendation
« on: November 08, 2025, 01:00:17 PM »
Thanks to this forum, I recently got into the world of Chinese components. I am currently looking for a new wheelset for my gravel bike. I have already found some interesting recommendations on this forum. However, I want to make sure that I am not missing out on any great brands that could meet my requirements.

The wheelset should be 50-60mm deep with an internal width of around 26mm. I would prefer the option of 55 and 60 mixed depth, as I have been very happy with this combo on my road bike for a long time. I primarily ride on 40c tires. Mostly on asphalt or compacted gravel in slightly hilly terrain. Stability in crosswinds and weight are not a concern for me. My budget is around $500-600. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Any recommendations? Is this a serious question? Just read what people posted here and make decisions. No need to make a new thread

You probably already seen these, but Light Carbon offer these;

I was quoted $409 for the wheelset with 50mm deep rims with Pillar spokes or an extra $70 for the same with CX-Ray spokes. 1580g and 1480g weight respectively. Seems like a good spec!  They also offer upgrades to DT swiss 350 hubs if you ask.

Thats exactly why i made this thread. I already did my research on this forum without asking any question. I don't have years of knowledge and experience with chinese wheelsets like some members here and I still feel like I havent yet discovered some brands that could be worth taking look at.

Let me make this clearer. Wheelsets that have the depth I'm looking for are usually road wheelsets not meant for gravel and with insufficient inner width for my use case. Then there are Zipp clones with 30+ width. Few of my buddies have Zipp XPLRs and havent had great experience running them on 40c tires. I have found few options such as Nextie rims, but they are too expensive to use as a training only wheels.

Thanks for the reccomendation! Yes, I've already seen these. They are definitely on my list if I cannot source a 55/60 mixed depth wheelset. With all the different options and pricepoints coming from china, I just feel there has to be someone making the exact wheelset I'm looking for.

You can take a look at Carbonspeed Cycle, I was searching for a 45mm, 26mm internal wheelset and I simply asked their support what they have and then ordered a wheelset that is built up like I wished for. Almost all of those sellers offer that kind of service, you just have to ask them with your preferences and then they'll say what they can offer you even if they don't have it listed specifically
