Winspace breaking EU legislations with fake discounts?

Hi all.

Was looking forward to the winspace BF campaign and maybe get a t1550 2ndgen.

However they did the dirtiest trick in the book by raising the retail price with 150 USD to make their discount look better.

I know this illegal in the European Union, but not sure they can get fined as they are a Chinese company. However they are targeting the European market and have a warehouse here etc..

LOL fuck winspace and their overpriced junk. They've been relevant 4 years ago and got left behind quickly.

They should have done what everybody else is doing - raise their price a month before.

I think this probably is a common practice outside of EU.  It's just general business practices. In the US they do it all the time, raising the price before the holiday seasons to make the discount "look better". And the furniture stores next to where I live had been on a "going out of business sales" since 20 years ago.

This is not legal practice in the US. You need to raise prices for a "reasonable amount of time," which is often tied to how deceptive the price rise and the subsequent discounts are. This is an FTC rule, so under the current administration, it would likely be tough to get enforced for many reasons, including a lack of staff at the FTC and related offices. A lot of states and other jurisdictions have laws against this, however, and some of those AG offices love to send nasty letters to companies about deceptive practices. If you can, use those resources! They are really easy to work with.

It's not a mistake for sure. In the past they give quite good offers for BF. Moreover, I noticed that they price are rather 30-40% higher than it was not so long time ago. Since their "key employee" left the company around april/may, I heard that quality is lower and they changed their approach. We will see, as in the past I consider to buy their frame, now there are complete out of the budget for most of the people.

Even on ALI sellers like Magene do the same. Had a PES515 in my basket on 27.10 at 303$ and at the beginning of the 11.11. sale the price went up to 330$.
But after a few days they lowered it to 284$.
It's not a nice thing but i get the idea to squeeze out some money from buyers who couldn't lie low.

But was the price overall higher after they increased the retail price or just seemed the discount bigger because of the increase.

In bundle deals same thing, starting price of frameset 2070$ (fu@k knows where did that come from but I assume it was starting price on premiere day)
September - discount to 1680$ and SL hendlebar 290$ to 250$ = 1930$
November 17 - frameset 1579$ and SL hendlebar 290$ discounted to 100$ = 1679$

Winspace is known not to play by the rules. I have them admitting to it in writing and it's in the complaint I filed with my credit card company after I tried to exchange a frame. They were refusing to ship my frame until I canceled a dispute which is a big no-no. Even when I told them this was against the rules they agreed to in their terms of service with credit card providers they were like, "sorry, this is our policy, we can't ship until you cancel the dispute." So yeah, we know they don't play by the rules because they straight up admitted to it.

Regarding the setting the regular price up before giving discounts, this is not forbidden per se. In my understanding in EU you have to write next to your discounted price the lowest price in the 30 days before.

Chinese sellers like Winspace won't care about such things.

Best we can do is, call them out on this forum
