1x Groupset for road / hybrid

I got a kid. he is the only chance I got of getting one of my two kids interested in cycling. He is drop bar curious, but I'm not betting too much on that he will keep riding with drops. So I am wondering about a realible and affordable groupset that can work with both drop bar handlers and flat bar ones. Just not to have to replace the entire groupset if he changes his mind.

Any suggestions?

Shimano CUES might be what you're looking for. I believe the drop bar shifters and flat bar shifter should be compatible with the rear derailleur. That way if the drop bars don't work, you can convert it to flat bar.
