Carbonda 936, 1001 or 909

Hello,

I want to get myself a new full sus frame and I debate about the models. I want 130mm front 120mm rear bike - which one would you pick and why?

I would pick the 909, the 2 bottle mounts in the frame and it is lighter.  the geo will be slightly slackened by over forking the 909 and 936 but it will just make it a little better descender.  it is pointless to put a shorter travel shock on the 1001 since you are still haling around the extra weight of the bigger bike (bigger frame and shock) but you cant use all the travel that the frame could offer.

From a 936 owner I also vote the 909, the second bottle cage it’s something I’ve underestimated and now I regret it, but also the cleaner ammo setup I think it’s better for a maintenance perspective

I see that the argument of not being able to mount a second water bottle is often given against the 936, but it is possible to DIY the holder. For me 936 (my is M size in attachment) is the best looking frame, and I wouldn't changed it for 909.

If you want a 130mm fork I would go with the FM1001. I have all three frames, 936 with 120/107, 909 with 120/120, 1001 with 150/135. Both the 936 and 909 with the 120mm linkage already have slightly funky geometry vs their 100mm versions, including a rather high BB, and adding a 130mm fork will on make it worse. The same can be said with my 150 over forking on the 1001. I built a 1001 for someone in the 130/120 setup and they love it. Still a light enough frame for downcountry duties, just pair it with a fast trail tire and it could be a do it all trail bike.

zilcho.. can we see your builds? Especially the 1001 with 130fork.. thought about it my self.
Rather happy with my 909 in 120/106(?)mm though :-) Did you change the link on your 909 to 120mm rear, or buy it as stock 120mm?

Travel is only one part of the story. 1001 is robust a heavier frame (2700 in L with paint). Antisquat is modest, so plan for remote lock out for faster DC bike. Nicely steep seat tube will get more steep with shorter fork, check-it out if it is still in desired range. BB is high enough for underforking. I dont see much sense in putting there shock with limited travel, it just makes shock tuning more dificult task, leverage ratio is almost fully linear and shock tunning is not easy (need progressive air chaber a and a lot of damping).

The 1001 and 909 120mm version have the same 28.5mm BB drop? Are you talking about how the 909 will have a slightly higher bottom bracket than the 1001 due to the over forking?
