Tantan fm121 failure?
« on: December 15, 2025, 07:41:39 AM »
I’ve been following/posting on another thread related to this frame. It ticked most of my boxes for a new frame so I bought one. Mostly I’ve been happy with it although I don’t have much time on it with my recovery from knee surgery. On the other thread an owner of this frame experienced a catastrophic top tube failure. Before I knew this I contacted tantan about why the frame no longer existed on their website. I did this because a friend of mine really liked my bike and was considering buying one. TanTan responded that they are redesigning the frame to add strength and that the new version would be out next summer.

Anyone else have this frame ? Any issues?

Specialf.

Hi, I'm the unfortunate owner of that broken frame.
The frame literally exploded.
I can consider myself lucky to be here to tell the story.
I didn't know they'd removed the model from the FM121 website, but I knew they were modifying the link between the two wishbones and the shock absorber.
I received two frames, each different from the other, even in the shock absorber mounting area. One of them had such a tight fit for the cable that I couldn't fit the shock absorber.
If you want advice, choose another seller, otherwise you'll risk your health.

That totally sucks but I’m glad you’re ok. It’s a shame. I let my buddy borrow mine for a few weeks and he said it’s an amazingly fast bike. I’m not in a position to buy another frame right now but will definitely be cautious where I ride it. Hopefully the fact that I have a medium compared to your XL means that the forces that caused your failure aren’t as bad.

I can’t recall from the other thread but is TANTAN doing anything for you? I have two other frames from them and have had zero problems.

Yes. They responded pretty quickly. I’m curious where you got 50% failure? I hope that’s not the case but it’s pretty damning that they pulled the frame from their website. I asked for a refund of the cost of the frame, not the shipping cost. Seems fair.

I rode it less than 10 hours from August to early October. I knee injury slowed me down and shut me down completely with surgery in mid October.

Are you still using the frame?

Are you still using the frame?
No. I don't think it's safe.
I contacted Tantan, and they promised to replace it. That was in August, and they've been silent since.

who are you talking to? vivian?

These frames are dangerous. Damn the day I decided to buy one.
It started badly from the beginning with shipping; it took me four months to receive the first frame.
