TL;DR at the end.
I'll start off with the fact that I'm quite a newbie when it comes to cycling but I've found myself in a rabbit hole and I'm looking to build myself a bike.
I've always been interested in road bikes. A while back I rebuilt an old Peugeot bike, had fun with it. Hated riding it.
Last summer I bought a Scott Speedster 30. Decent bike for the money in my opinion and wasn't super expensive which let me get introduced into the sport. I really enjoy cycling.
I'm 6'2". About 190 - 200lbs. My background is mostly weight lifting but enjoy cycling for the cardio aspect and mainly mental aspect, sort of a therapy session. I ride 1-2x a week in the summer at the moment with my schedule.
I work in the car industry and I love speed. I always wanted a motorcycle but living in Montreal with our terrible roads I never trusted myself to get one, hence why I ended up with a road bike. I'm not looking to become a professional cyclist. Mainly a hobby that I like to do on weekends. I'm also someone who looks at value for money which is why I ended up in this rabbit hole and found myself looking at Tantan. I like building things, and would very much enjoy building a bike, getting to paint it, etc.
I am just a bit lost with what I should get, I've done quite a bit of research from buying a used frame and sourcing used parts off marketplace or buying another bike off marketplace to buying something from ELVES or WINSPACE and I seem to keep circling back to Tantan for the fact of getting to paint and build a bike I would enjoy.
I'm not one to care about brands that much but I love the looks of the SL8 which is why the X68 is my top pick.
I am strongly considering the X68 without the wheel set and getting some Elite Wheels from AliX BUT I am also really considering the TT-X34 since it is a significant amount cheaper but wondering if I will be annoyed at myself later on knowing I should've splurged to get the DI2.
My original budget was 2.5K CAD(1.8K USD) but now I'm starting to consider the 4-5k CAD(3.6K USD) option and just get the X68.
So ultimately, I'm here to ask you guys what you would suggest between the two options? What else should I look at that I might not have considered? Finally which Elite Wheels would you suggest with the X68 if I go that route?
