ZTTO Gen3 cassette

Hey guys,

I’m thinking about trying the ZTTO 12s Gen3 cassette https://it.aliexpress.com/item/1005007748021425.html and wanted to hear from someone who’s actually been using it for a while.

How does it shift in real life? Is it smooth and solid under load or a bit finicky to set up? And what about durability, does it wear out quickly as it's said?

It's a good value for the money or another useless upgrade?

I've taken a chance on an 11-36 of this for a build project starting at the end of Feb. Also keen to hear real world experience beforehand if possible. Otherwise I'll post back in March about it.

I know it's not this specific cassette but I used the gen 1 version and it failed on the first ride. Chain started skipping on the alu cogs mid ride and but the end of the ride it would not hold the chain under even a minimal power. Maybe mine was defective, no idea, but I since switched to ZTTO Ultimate which is full steel and it served me well for 9000km until it started making noise under load(likely wear on the connection pins causing micro movement) and I recently installed gen2 untimate which is a little lighter.
It's about 180-200g depending on the size. 11-34 was 194g on my scales.

From what I’ve seen in another forum, they’re not the best cassettes. They’re noisy, the fine adjustment is very difficult to set up, and the aluminum cogs wear out quite quickly. However, they suggested another alternative that people seem very happy with: a Goldix cassette made entirely of steel.

I bought the 12-speed 11–34T version two days ago and I’m waiting for it to arrive so I can test how it performs on my road bike. I have another Goldix cassette on my gravel bike and, so far, I’m very satisfied with it.

If you care about saving 100g on your bike go for it. If you dont, get whats tested and true. There is nothing wrong with 105 cassettes and cheaper.

I have a 11 speed 11-36T and it's fine with fine tuning on EDS TX but it's noisy, really noisy compared to some Shimano cassettes.

So far after 1000km I cannot say something about the wear on this one, but I see that the bigger cogs loose their colour.

I had the ZTTO SLR3 (gen 3, the one with 3 largest cog being 7000-series aluminum) HG 11-50 12 speed for about half a year or 900 miles. For the first 200 miles I was using the shimano XT M8100 long cage derailleur. It worked but there is always a little noise at some gear, either this or that one. I tried to fine-tune the shift cable tension, limit screw, B-screws. But you will always have a couple of gears that have the noise.

Maybe it's just me who are sensitive but it really bothered me. But at the same time I really liked the lightweight-ness of it. (285grams!!!).  So I bought the Wheeltop OX 2 mountain electronic derailleur and then fine-tune every cog. It worked beautifully since then (the past 700 miles). extremely quiet at each cog. I am loving it.

the cassette cog-spacing must have not been very accurate for some cogs, but the Wheeltop electronic shifting system resolved the issue.

Luke's posted about someone's experience with one of these in 11-36T. Not a great vote of confidence to see the top two alloy chainrings sheared off of the steel monoblock.

I also bought 11-36 for my Avenger, now I'm really disappointed and worried. I didn't test it yet, but rather not promising and I won't have a good experience. Still, waiting for some sun and dry road to try it.

I have the Goldix 12s ultralight cassette in 11-34 weighing 192g. I've put about 2,000 kms on it so far and have no real complaints. It's certainly noisier than stock Shimano but the shifting has been fine, just need to see how long it lasts.

This one is great. I'm only using Goldix right now. Ztto slr3 is not worth it with 50g weight savings

over 3k km and since new it had some issues with shifting from 9th to 8th and 8th to 9th cog. Now I'm putting new (4th) chain and I can't seem to find any other problems with this cassette on alu sprockets nor steel ones. No racing just chill rides (around avg. 150-230W) with some harder climbs where I'm pushing from 250W avg. up to 600/800W when I need to catch a roadie and act like it's my Z2 The funny part is that I'm bearly using those last cogs just to keep them blue hahaha Honestly I just hate rear heavy gravels with MTB cassettes so this ztto in a 2x setup is doing great job for it's cost

I’ve used two of the ZTTO lightweight cassettes. And the problem is lack of consistent quality. The 11-34t version I got was terrible. Right from the start it never shifted well. I spent an hour indexing it with my Di2 and when I fixed the shifting on one side of the cassette it screwed up the other side. So when I could get up shifting crisp, the downshifting would suffer. Ended up returning it.

But…I have a 11-36t version that’s great. Near perfect shifting. I love it. It’s like 150g lighter than 105. Zero complaints whatsoever. If I could guarantee I got another one like this I’d buy more. So I guess just make sure they have a return policy. I actually need another 11-36t for the gravel bike so might pick one up.
