Same rim profile and specs BUT one is heavier... which one do you go for?

Why?

Wheel 1 = 50mm, 21 internal, 1300g
Wheel 2 = 60mm, 21 internal, 1700g

The more I read the less I see a reason to seek the lightest rims...... what do you guys think?

Like I said on Reddit, neither.... 21 IW is kind of out of date..... you can get a 60mm deep wheel with 24-29mm internal for the standard 28-32c tires at ~1300-1400g for pretty cheap if companies can ship to you. Plus even between these, if we were talking 100-200g it would be one thing..... you will feel 400g, 1700g wheels are also kind of out of date.

He is right about both though. I have a 24 internal 30 external (32 at widest point) 50 mm deep wheelset at 1360, and I wouldn't call that light either. That's my training wheelset that I am not worried to bomb over potholes and such

Im in recovery, those days are behind me. Im more of a watt weenie now. Outside of dirt cheap Elitewheels theres not much reason to buy 1700g or 21mm internal wheels in 2026.

if you really prefer 21mm IW, now can make it under 1300g of 50m, 1380g of 60mm

Ignoring the 21mm last gen IW, I won't got either rim depths either.

I'm running 45mm front/rear, and during a winter run super strong cross wind almost knocked me off bike.

Unfortunately 45mm is already the shallowest one from Farsports for the current 24mm IW in-house branded wheels.

If there is the option, I'll go 24mm IW 35mm depth wheels instead, and its weight should be arounf 1200~1250g.
